In 2012 on Aug 24th, at 12:41 p.m. EST, a package that was sealed in 1912 in a small town in central Norway, was finally opened after 100 years of mystery during a ceremony to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the Battle of Kringen. The parcel, which read, “May be opened in 2012,” was left in the council’s care by Johan Nygaard, Otta‘s first mayor, in 1920 and no one knew what it contained until today.

Here concludes my favourite Roald Dahl story. 😉

Despite appearing to be a tale stranger than fiction, The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar is inspired by real events. Specifically, the story of Khudah Bukhsh, aka Kuda Bux, a magician and mystic from Pakistan, who lived between 1905 and 1981. He provided the inspiration for Ben Kingsley’s character, Imdad Khan, as he was famed for covering his eyes with dough balls and pieces of cloth and yet still being able to see. #RoaldDahl knew of Kuda Bux for several decades before he penned "The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar" as he wrote an article on the Pakistani mystic in 1952 for Argosy Magazine, a whopping 25 years before the tale of Henry Sugar would be published.

They can be seen especially in London, New York, Paris, Nassau, Montego Bay, Cannes, and San Tropez. They are not particularly bad men, but they are not good men either. They are of no particular importance; they’re simply part of the decoration.”
