Lieutenant-Colonel Mpho Kwinika, who is the former president of the South African Police Union, has decided to speak out about the retaliation he faced after helping to uncover irregularities in a R45-million police tender for a cellphone surveillance device commonly referred to as a “cellphone grabber.” He says he hopes the Commission of Inquiry into the criminal justice system will accommodate him after being forced out of the police for exposing tender fraud. He had a conversation with Nghamula Chauke, and this is what he had to say:

Executive Mayor of Polokwane municipality John Mpe has denied allegations of nepotism. This comes after he announced that unemployed residents who participated in Nelson Mandela Day activities will be considered for the Expanded Public Works Programme. Speaking to Nghamula Chauke, EM Mpe said that the individuals referred to, during his Mandela Day address were simply acknowledged for their voluntary service and were registered in the municipality’s unemployment database. He adds that this registration does not guarantee employment, but places them into the system for consideration, subject to qualification and compliance with all existing EPWP recruitment criteria.

The National Union of Public Service and Allied Workers in Limpopo has lambasted the Health department in Limpopo together with the security company that is appointed to provide safety services at the Ga-Chuene clinic. Speaking to Nghamula Chauke, NUPSAW Limpopo secretary Ntata Sekgota said that the abduction and sexual assault of two nurses at the clinic could have been avoided if the department and the security company could have ensured safer working conditions.

Limpopo MEC for Education Mavhungu Lurule Ramakhanya said that she was very happy with the improved performance of the province in the matric results of 2024. She told Nghamula Chauke that having attained the 6th position, she hopes to be in the top 5 in the new year. Lurule-Ramakhanya says she is even happier at the great performance of all the districts as most have managed to record Bachelor passes.

The Limpopo Health department together with the South African Medical Association Trade Union in Limpopo have condemned an incident that recently took place at Musina hospital whereby a doctor was assaulted by a civilian. Both the department and SAMATU have raised concerns on the safety of health care professionals saying that communities have to understand that the safety of health workers is in their hands and that attacking the very professionals will only affect them(patients) as and when they require medical attention. Nghamula Chauke spoke to spokesperson of Health in Limpopo Neil Shikwambana and SAMATU NEC member Dr Nkateko Mnisi and this is what they had to say:

While the ANC Youth League in Limpopo agrees with the notion that prevention is better than cure, it is however disappointed in the manner at which the food poisoning matter is being handled by the Limpopo Education department. Speaking to Nghamula Chauke, ANCYL Provincial Secretary Oliver Mabunda said it can never be right that South African hawkers are the ones taking the flak for developments around recent hospitalisation of learners who are alleged to have consumed poisonous food stuff. Mabunda is urging government to look into the root cause of the problem and deal with illegal immigrants who are operating spaza shops.

The Limpopo Department of Education has decided to suspend the sale of food in and around schools in the province. This comes after the death of a 13 year old who is alleged to have eaten snacks from a local shop. Limpopo Education Media Liaison Officer Matome Moremi Taueatsoala told Nghamula Chauke that this is a temporary measure as the department and other stakeholders are still trying to navigate around these developments, adding that it is a necessary step to take to prevent the loss of more lives.

Former unionist and Gauteng Premier Mbhazima Shilowa has shared his fondest memories with Nghamula Chauke about the late Reserve Bank Governor Tito Mboweni. Shilowa who described Mboweni as his Maseve, said the late Finance Minister was a hard worker and a disciplinarian. He says Mboweni loved and enjoyed his favourite dish of vuswa and huku adding that he spent his retirement days showing off his culinary skills which became the talk of social media.

The Great North Transport has assured pension beneficiaries who once worked for the company that their grievances are being addressed and will be finalized soon. The pensioners staged a night vigil in Polokwane in the premier's office, complaining that they still have not received their pension payment after years of service. GNT Spokesperson Leo Gama told Nghamula Chauke that the process of processing all the documents is taking longer however everyone will get what is due to them.
