It's Ray's turn at the February fun and he's decided to go a slightly different direction. He's decided to highlight a film that centers on the love between two best friends. For this, he's recommending to Rob the 1971 Sport classic BRIAN'S SONG! This film centers on the real-life story of Brian Piccolo and Gayle Sayers, two Chicago Bear rookies who begin their relationship as rivals for the same spot on the team to becoming the best of friends. But when tragedy strikes, their friendship is put to the test as the strength it takes from both could be more than either can bear. Portrayed by James Caan (THE GODFATHER, THIEF) and Billy Dee Williams (STAR WARS, MAHOGANY) respectively, this sports classic is heralded as not only being one of the best of the genre but also is considered to be one of the greatest made-for-television movies ever made!

The month of love continues here at Car RayRob! For our brand-new episode of A COPY OF A COPY, Ray and Rob have decided to examine one the greatest romantic comedies of all time by watching Bill Wilder's indelible classic SABRINA, as well as the Sydney Pollock's 1995 remake!

Both films center on Sabrina Fairchild (Played in the original by the legendary Audrey Hepburn), the daughter of a chauffeur for the Larrabee family, a wealthy industrialist magnate. Sabrina grows up with her eyes set on David, the shiftless playboy of the family who barely knows she exists, portrayed in Wilder's original by William Holden (STALAG 17, THE WILD BUNCH) and Greg Kinnear in Pollock's remake. When Sabrina leaves to spend time in Paris, she believes she is growing beyond David's spell. However, when David finds himself engaged for the benefit of the family's business, she once again is pulled into his orbit as her worldly transformation finally garners his affections. To head off his infatuation with Sabrina, the duty falls on his brother Linus, played by Humphrey Bogart in the original and Harrison Ford in the remake, to protect the family's interests and break up the shenanigans. The original holds a very special place in Rob's heart and with Ray's newfound love of both Billy Wilder and Humphrey Bogart, the remake has a tough road ahead.

It's once again the season of love here at Car RayRob! As usual, Rob is ready for the occasion. To ring in the season, he has decided to bring an heirloom film, one passed down from his big sister to him and now he is passing it along to brother from another mother, Ray!

The 1983 Martha Coolidge directed teen comedy, VALLEY GIRL! 

This gem of 80's nostalgia is loosely based on the Shakespeare classic ROMEO AND JULIET and stars the bearer of the unbearable weight of massive talent, Nicolas Cage! He stars alongside Deborah Foreman (REAL GENIUS, WAXWORK) as Randy and Julie, two star crossed lovers from different cliques who decide to upend the apple cart of social hierarchy and begin a relationship, much the chagrin of her friends. All things seem heavenly until the peer pressure begins to build and Julie has to decide what's more important, Randy or their social differences? 

A movie that may be disregarded in the slew of imitations that followed, VALLEY GIRL not only helped solidify the conventions of the teen comedy but also helped launch a lexicon! I think it's fair to say we would not have classics like CLUELESS without VALLEY GIRL! So, grab your special someone, pop your popcorn, cuddle in close and bask in the glory of this romantic classic! Like, for sure!

To round out our month of premieres, Ray and Rob are back with a brand-new season of HELLO MOVIES, MY OLD FRIEND! They've decided to quench their need for speed by revisiting Tony Scott's 1990 racing drama DAYS OF THUNDER!

This piece of sports nostalgia centers on Cole Trickle, a hot shot rookie who is entering the world of stock car racing by joining a new team put together by car dealership tycoon, Tim Daland. To lead this team, Tim brings on retired crew chief Harry Hodges who carries the death of his former driver close to his heart. When Cole's star begins to rise and is himself struck with tragedy, he has to overcome his fears to get back in the driver's seat and win the biggest race of his career. Perhaps most known for launching the real-life relationship of its co-stars Tom Cruise (TOP GUN, RISKY BUSINESS) and Nicole Kidman (TO DIE FOR, BIRTH), Days of Thunder is also the re-teaming of the crew behind one of the biggest hits of the 80s, TOP GUN!

With a stellar supporting cast including Robert Duvall (APOLOCLYPSE NOW, THE GODFATHER), Michael Rooker (CLIFFHANGER, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY) and Randy Quaid (NATIONAL LAMPOON'S CHRISTMAS VACATION, THE LAST DETAIL), can this slice of 90's nostalgia live up to Ray and Rob's memories and kick this season off on the right foot? It's Ray's turn to kick things off on Car RayRob's brand-new season of SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FILM! While Rob went big with an action spectacle, Ray is going in a different direction by recommending the 1964 Sidney Lumet (DOG DAY AFTERNOON, NETWORK) classic FAIL SAFE! This entry in the cannon of Cold War thrillers centers on a group of American politicians, bureaucrats and enlisted men who court disaster when a series of unfortunate mishaps during a military exercise sends a lone squadron of nuclear bombers fly to Russia with orders to bomb Moscow. With an all-star cast including Walter Matthau (THE ODD COUPLE, CHARLEY VERRICK), Henry Fonda (YOUNG MR LINCOLN, THE GRAPES OF WRATH) and Larry Hagman (I DREAM OF JEANIE, DALLAS), FAIL SAFE seeks to challenge the viewer with the face of our own militaristic, self-destructive nature and was an early prophet against our reliance on machines in warfare.

FAIL SAFE opened to a poor box office reception, mainly due to the similar subject matter and release proximity to one of the greatest political dark comedies of all time, DR STRANGELOVE. Despite these challenges, FAIL SAFE has found a solid place in film history and Ray's heart!

Will the similarities between FAIL SAFE and DR STRANGELOVE prove too much for Rob to enjoy it? Or will this taut thriller stand on its own two feet and differentiate itself? Tune in this week to find out!

A brand-new year is a upon which means Car RayRob is back with a fresh new season of A COPY OF A COPY! The podcast where Ray and Rob watch originals and remakes to analyze why they were made! For their season opener, they're swinging for the fences by trying to settle an age-old argument, is THE HUNGER GAMES really just a rip of BATTLE ROYALE?!? The Y/A juggernaut has wowed audiences the world over, but detractors continue to bash it in defense of the Japanese action spectacle.

Both films center on a politically sanctioned game where teens are conscripted to fight to the death. In one, as a punishment for long ago fought revolution. The other, as a way to try to keep the kids in line as the country goes to hell.

It's Rob episode and he's decided to go in a completely different direction than the way he started last season by going big and he means BIG! To accomplish this hefty goal, he has chosen a film that meets the moment and one that he was shocked to learn Ray had never seen, the 2014 Action film spectacle JOHN WICK! Starring the much-loved Keanu Reeves, this modern staple of the genre centers on John Wick, a retired hitman who not only loses his wife to illness, but also her final gift to him after her passing, his dog. This act of aggression not only sparks a revenge tour that has to be seen to be believed but threatens to pull him back into a life that John had long left behind. With supporting performances Alfie Allen (GAME OF THRONES, JOJO RABBIT), Ian McShane (DEADWOOD, SEXY BEAST) and the late Lance Reddick (THE WIRE, WHITE HOUSE DOWN), John Wick became an overnight sensation that sparked a franchise and became the pinnacle of the genre for a generation.

To ring out the year, they have decided to embrace the winter cold by revisiting the 1999 sports comedy MYSTERY, ALASKA! This hockey classic revolves around a small Alaskan town and the myth surrounding a weekly hockey match called "The Saturday Game". When Sports Illustrated prints a story about this long-held tradition, written by a former townie, interest arises to pit Mystery's scrappy players against the New York Rangers. This opportunity sparks a firestorm within the town to prove to the world that they are just as good as any professional player on the ice. With starring performances by Russell Crowe (L.A. The time has come for Ray to present his season finale recommendation on SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FILM! For this momentous occasion, Ray has chosen a movie that will tug on Rob's heartstrings by hitting close to home, the 2017 family drama GIFTED. Directed by Marc Webb (500 DAYS OF SUMMER, THE AMAZING SPIDER MAN), GIFTED follows the story of Mary (Played by the amazing McKenna Grace), a seven-year-old math savant who is being raised by her Uncle Frank after her mother's tragic suicide.
