It's another fun trip down nostalgia lane with CAR RAYROB, but on this episode of HELLO MOVIES, MY OLD FRIEND, Ray and Rob look at what they've been told is the most pressing issue in modern American life, boy is girls sports! To aide their dissection, they are going to revisit the 1992 sports comedy LADYBUGS. It stars the late/great Rodney Dangerfield (BACK TO SCHOOL, CADDYSHACK) as Chester Lee, a hardworking salesman who is desperate to impress his boss and land the big promotion. When he's offered the opportunity to coach the company's girls soccer team (a sport he knows nothing about), he enlists the help of his fiancée's son Matthew to help him put together a winning season. Co-starring Jonathan Brandis (SEAQUEST DSV, THE NEVERENDING STORY II) and Vinessa Shaw (HOCUS POCUS, 3:10 TO YUMA), LADYBUGS tackles the notion of winning at all costs and finding your self-confidence in the face of perilous odds.

Greetings to all out there in Car RayRob Land! We're back with another great episode of SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FILM! It's Ray's episode this week and he recently realized he'd been bringing the heavy for the last few months. So, he decided to lighten things up with the buddy road trip dramedy A WALK IN THE WOODS!

This tale of reconnecting friendships stars the powerhouse duo of Robert Redford (ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN, A RIVER RUNS THROUGH IT) and Nick Nolte (CAPE FEAR, 48 HRS) as Bill Bryson and Stephen Katz, two former friends who come back together to fulfil Bill's wish of hiking the Appalachian Trail. As Bill struggles to push through and Bill struggles to keep up, the two must find what made them friends to begin with the complete the journey they've set before them. With a supporting cast including Kristen Schaal (BOB'S BURGERS, 30 ROCK) and Emma Thompson (LOVE ACTUALLY, HOWARD'S END), this take on the classic road trip movie warms the soul and tickles the funny bone.

Car RayRob is back with another episode of their brand-new podcast A COPY OF A COPY! The first went so well, we've decided to keep it going! For this episode, Ray and Rob are looking at another way remakes are being made these days and that's the musical! More and more traditional features are being reimagined in the Broadway style, so to explore this growing phenomenon, Ray and Rob have zeroed in the John Waters classic HAIRSPRAY! Ray has a checkered past with the Pope of Trash, but the success of both the original and the musical beg for the Car RayRob magnifying glass! 

In both, the story centers on Tracy Turnblad (Ricki Lake in 88 and Nikki Blonsky in 2007), a Baltimore teen who dreams of being on the local dance sensation The Corny Collins Show! Not fitting the traditional mold of beauty, Tracy faces strong headwinds in the form of Amber, the queen bee of the dance floor and her cadre of "cool kids" who rule the show and look down on outsiders. When she shoots for the moon much to the chagrin of her mother Edna (Divine in 1988 and John Travolta in 2007), she finds surprise allies and the push towards the fight for racial equality in 1960s America.

Happy Pride Month! On this week's SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FILM, Rob is celebrating the occasion by recommending to Ray the classic LGTBQ romantic comedy BUT I'M A CHEERLEADER! This heartfelt love story stars the always amazing Natasha Lyonne (POKER FACE, RUSSIAN DOLL) as Megan Bloomfield, a teenage cheerleader who is confronted by her friends and family due to what they believe to be "lesbian behavior". In response, her parents send Megan to True Directions, a conversion therapy center run by the Mary Brown, played by the tour de force, Cathy Moriarty (SOAPDISH, RAGING BULL). With supporting performances by Clea Duvall (GIRL, INTERRUPTED, THE HANDMAID'S TALE), Melanie Lynskey (YELLOWJACKETS, HEAVENLY CREATURES) and a rare non-drag performance by RuPaul (AJ AND THE QUEEN, RUPAUL'S DRAG RACE), This journey of self-discovery and acceptance is a heartfelt call to all who feel like they don't belong and all who need to know that there is more than one way to live!

For our May Episode of HELLO MOVIES, MY OLD FRIEND, Ray and Rob are revisiting a classic from their childhood, the 1990 martial arts sports drama, BEST OF THE BEST. This was a staple of both of their youths but a film they haven't revisited in roughly 30 years!

This drama is set around a team of American Martial artists lead by Tommy Lee (played by the films writer/producer Philip Rhee) and Alex Grady, portrayed by one of film's renowned journeyman, Eric Roberts (THE DARK KNIGHT, THE EXPENDABLES). As the team gears up to take on the unstoppable force of the Korean National team, the ghosts of their past and toxic interpersonal relationships threaten to throw them off their path to prove they are truly the best of the best. With supporting performances by James Earl Jones (STAR WARS, COMING TO AMERICA) and the late Chris Penn (FOOTLOOSE, RESERVOIR DOGS), this martial arts staple explores what it takes to be a team and what you're willing to sacrifice to win.

It's Ray's turn this week on SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FILM and once again he's decided to bring the heavy! For his recommendation, he is going back to the 2006 Oscar winner for Best Foreign Language film, THE LIVES OF OTHERS! This Cold War period drama centers on Stasi Captain Gerd Wiesler played by Ulrich Muhe, who is assigned to surveil renowned playwright Georg Dreyman and his lover and prominent actress, Christa-Maria Sieland. As Wiesler grows more entangled in the lives of his targets, he begins to overlook the rebellious uprising unfolding before his very ears. 

Will the heavy and political nature of this subject matter be enough to turn Rob off? Or will the lives of the characters draw him in? Tune in this week to find out!

We're kicking off May on SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FILM with a bang as Rob brings to the table Walter Hill's 1984 rock n' roll fable STREETS OF FIRE! This genre bending classic features Michael Pare (EDDIE AND THE CRUISERS, THE PHILIDELPHIA EXPERIMENT) as Tom Cody, an ex-military solider enlisted to track down his ex-girlfriend and local rock star Ellen Aim (played by DIANE LANE) after she's kidnapped by local biker gang, The Bombers. With stellar supporting performances by Willem Dafoe (POOR THINGS, NOSFERATU) and Rick Moranis (HONEY, I SHRUNK THE KIDS, LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS) and a kicking soundtrack which launched the Dan Hartman hit "I CAN DREAM ABOUT YOU", Streets of Fire is a rollicking action flick that defies all categorization!

On this month's episode of HELLO MOVIES, MY OLD FRIEND, Ray and Rob are revisiting a movie that they saw well before their time. A movie full of themes and visuals that were beyond the understanding of your average 10-year-old, the 1981 Chevy Chase (CADDYSHACK, MEMOIRS OF THE INVISIBLE MAN) dark comedy MODERN PROBLEMS. In this tale of woe, Chevy plays Max Fielder, an air traffic controller who can't seem to find the confidence in himself to stop pushing women away. When a freak accident with toxic waste gives him powers he can't quite control, he uses them to win back his recent girlfriend. With supporting performances by Patti D'Arbanville (REAL GENIUS, HOG WILD) and the late/great Dabney Coleman (9 TO 5, WARGAMES) this film seeks to examine the nature of masulinity and the ways we're viewed by others. Is it successful? Does it still hold up? Tune in this week to find out!

To round out April, Ray decides to do something never before done on SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FILM, he is recommending a documentary! In the name of capitalizing on the recent March Madness tournament, Ray is recommending the 1994 HOOP DREAMS! This facsinating documentary looks at two rising freshman basketball players as they pursue their dream of one day joining the NBA. When both are accepted to a prestigious private high school, the sky appears to be the limit. However, unforseen circumstances force both Arthur and William onto diverging paths that threaten to derail their furture prospects. Dissecting racial, economic, and social strife, HOOP DREAMS looks at the roots of a dream and the adveristy each of us face in the pursuit of success.
