Reggae icon Frankie Paul has died. The veteran singer passed away on Thursday May 18, 2017 at the University Hospital of The West Indies (UHWI).
Frankie Paul’s sister, Trish Clarke, confirmed his death via Facebook and told his fans that the singer was battling a kidney problem for a while. At the time of his death he was getting dialysis treatment at the hospital two days per week.
Several of his friends including singer/producer Wayne Lonesome were helping him with his massive hospital bill. His condition had deteriorated and he was admitted to the UHWI hospital where he died Thursday night.

  • The Love Doctor Frankie Paul Tribute
Another day to face, time to wash off the past,
Now awake and memories of yesterday loom.
Set that temperature so the water is just right,
A cascade of warm wetness to soothe me.
The past day a fading memory washed away,
Soaked in lather and fresh smelling scents.
Plans for the new day formulating in my mind,
Eager to venture out into the sunshine now.
Her last words on my mind, "See you soon?"
"Yes" was my reply, so eager for her hugs.
Trying hard to fit her into my hectic schedule,
Knowing how imperative it is to make time.
So much love for her that it truly hurts each time,
That I find it impossible to get to her side.
But today again I plan the day in my mind,
Fervently praying it goes as so carefully planned.
Patience with me is all I can ask of her in earnest,
For my love is true and straight for her indeed.
Dear lord heed my cry and put your hand in this,
For if not, you know I will abandon your deeds for her.

  • Ska Now and then :The rebirth of Ska
The early sixties saw a musical evolution in Jamaica and the creation of Ska. What is not know is that it was not widely accepted in Jamaica and only gained recognition after the success of Bob Marley in the foreign marketplace. Before Bob there were people like Harry Belafonte and Lord Flea who served as trail blazers to the ska explosion. You had American musicians like Satchmo, Louis Jordon and Ella Fitzgerald who performed some island music in their shows, but it seemed to me, only as a gimmick. Today's show will play some of these recordings of top American artists and theie take on Jamaican music. Also on the show will be the renewed interest of Ska by its new ambassador Richie Stevens.

  • Celebrating the Works legendary Artist Derrick Harriot & Ken Booth
Ken Boothe, O.D. has straddled the social status-spheres, both locally and internationally, in California, New York, Toronto and London. He has conducted numerous tours of Europe, North and South America, Japan and the Caribbean. In Jamaica he continues to reign supreme and maintains his popularity as one of the nation’s top entertainers. His musical talents and love for humanity have afforded him the opportunity of touring in North and South America, Europe, Japan, Canada and the Caribbean.
Born in Kingston, Jamaica, reggae singer/producer Derrick Harriott began as a member of the Jiving Juniors (from 1958 through 1962) before embarking on his own solo career, in addition to producing other artists, including the Ethiopians, Keith, and Tex. Harriott tended to rework old R&B love songs as reggae tunes, but his best-known song, "The Loser," was an original composition. In 1971, Swing Magazine named Harriott Top Producer of 1970, as he was also one of the first to utilize the now renowned King Tubby's recording studio. The '70s saw the release of such solo albums as Undertaker, Songs for Midnight Lovers, and Psychedelic Lovers. Although not much was heard from Harriott during the '80s in terms of solo releases, the mid- to late '90s saw the emergence of such solo efforts as Sings Jamaican Rock Steady Reggae, For a Fistful of Dollars, Derrick Harriott & Giants, and Riding the Roots Chariot.
