In November 2020, Daniella Levine Cava became the first woman and first person of Jewish descent to be elected Mayor of Miami-Dade County. Before being elected mayor she served as Miami-Dade County Commissioner for District 8, a post she held from 2014 to 2020. She has spent much of her political career working to invest in public transportation, create affordable housing for families, and expand economic opportunity in Miami-Dade. Today, we’re delighted to be speaking with the talented Leroy Sibbles. Described as "the greatest all-round talent in reggae history" by Kevin O'Brien Chang and Wayne Chen in their 1998 book Reggae Routes, he was the lead singer for The Heptones in the 1960s and 1970s. Sibbles is a singer, songwriter, guitar and bass player. He and The Heptones have been an integral part of the transition of Jamaican music from ska to rock steady in the late 1960s.
