  • Police Brutality
Thank God for music, and the means to express and work through the pain I feel for the world so often - many times it's the best or only way for me to put into words, feelings which seem to have no words.
So here we are again - and it just seems to go on and on...
Do ALL lives REALLY matter? The evidence, historical and current, would suggest otherwise...
While playing and singing Junior Murvin's "Police & Thieves" at home one day, these words started to fill in, and take the place of the original lyrics.
It hurts me to my heart, and I've got to cry out - for peace, love... and justice.

  • Must Go To School
This one goes out to Moreland Hills Elementary! To all the children, teachers and parents I've had the pleasure to play for over the years, especially Mrs. Aiello, whom I wrote this song for back when my daughter, Soraya was in her kindergarten class. Thank you, and Happy Unity Day!!! :-) <3

  • Use Your Voice - NOW!
Many who went before us fought, bled, suffered and died for our right to exercise this privilege to try and direct our own destiny. I've told you before and I'm gonna say it again; If you hope for things to change, you can't just sit there and complain. We have to use the strongest tool we've been given to not let rampant evil, greed and corruption take over our country and erase democracy. There is too much at stake to act as if it doesn't make a difference, and just do nothing - a non-vote IS a vote for things as they are. Silence is compicity.
Don't sit this one out - JUST DO IT! Make your voice count and make it HEARD!
    USE YOUR VOICE
It might look like they've taken everything,
But there's still a way for us to make a change
First you got to get up! and get movin
We got to call the play
It's still up to us to take a stand
So we can have our say – come on now
    Use your voice! (3x)
    don't lose your choice
Don't let nobody tell you there's no chance
and that one voice has no significance
It might seem harder for us to win
but you'll surely lose if you just give in, so…
    use your voice! (3x)
    don't lose your choice
Yes there’s an abundance of dirty tricks
And the good of the people gets lost in politics
But now the clock is ticking people, it's our ball
Don't you dare to miss your chance to make the call
    use your voice! (3x)
    don't lose your choice
I know they’ve got their technological trickery
And they will not give up power easily
    All their roadblocks and diversions
may have brought you to the conclusion that the system’s broken
But you got to make sure your word is spoken – come on now
    use your voice! (3x)
    don't lose your choice
You may feel your power’s been taken away
but the truth is gonna have to come to light one day
They know that people aren’t satisfied
So they want to take us for a ride – come on I say…
    USE YOUR VOICE!
    POWER TO THE PEOPLE!!!

  • Positive Vibration
Lo-fi acoustic version of Marley's classic, recorded on my Yamaha 4-track cassette tape deck around 1991. Big up and respect to Bob Marley! His positive words and music set me on a path I walk to this day. 1 <3

  • Will The Circle Be Unbroken
Just a simple tribute to my Virginia roots. I've always loved this song and it feels good to just sit down and play and sing it for my own personal soul satisfaction. It really takes me back to a simpler time and place. I can see my Grampa sitting on his front porch in his rocker, singing along.

  • Crystal Moments
    Crystal Moments -
As life is rushing us downstream with nothing to grab and hold onto
the scenery on the shore a blur as it goes by
time goes rolling on and seems to go faster and faster
but every now and then an image will catch your eye
we get a crystal moment - burned into our brain
    that will stay forevermore
As we grow older with so many things to attend to
our worries and our problems like sand washing to shore
a pure moment of clarity washes over you
and you're suddenly in the center of the storm
we stop and get a crystal moment to take us away
    and relieve our troubled hearts
Yes I said a crystal moment to have and to hold
a jewel of time that enriches your life
like when we stop and realize just how blessed we are to have these moments together
like the beauty of a rainbow that burns across the sky
    And those crystal moments
    will not fade away
They'll remain part of your soul
    Yes those crystal moments
    will not fade away
They'll remain part of your soul
Like the first morning rays of a new sunrise
or the very first time you hear your baby cry
    It is a crystal moment...

About Carlos Jones

From the publisher's feed

Carlos Jones has been sharing his musical inspiration with Cleveland and the surrounding area for over 40 years, earning him the unofficial designation of “The Iron-man of Cleveland Reggae”. Born in Virginia, his earliest musical influence was the gospel music he heard in the church where his grandfather preached. In the mid-60s his family moved to Frankfurt, Germany, where he became fascinated by the Beatles and other popular music of the time. A few years later, after moving back to the states, his main musical interests were Soul, Jazz, Blues and Rock music, until he discovered Reggae in the mid 70s, which led him to seeing Bob Marley perform and then joining one of Cleveland's first local Reggae bands. He started out in 1978 as a side-man (percussion/vocals) with I-tal, one of Cleveland’s first homegrown Reggae groups, and then in 1984, split off from I-tal along with several other members to form the group, First Light.
