Carolynn Bain - Afrori Books
This is a bonus episode to save Afrori Books. Afrori Books is an independent bookshop in Brighton, UK owned by Carolynn Bain and is the biggest supplier of books by Black Authors.
Afrori Books is at risk of closure. Four days before Christmas they found out that on 1st April their monthly payment to their landlord will quadruple and in addition they expected to pay hire fees for any events in the shop, like book clubs, author events and workshops.
Afrori Books is more than just a bookshop. The bookshop is an important part of the community and provides a safe space for children to learn crafts, author events, book festivals, hair workshop, anti-racism training and more.
Afrori Books goal is to raise £25,000 through crowdfunding to find a new home.
