Casting The Net

It was supposed to be the music festival to end all music festivals. Instead, it became one of the biggest disasters social media had ever witnessed. This week we cover not one by two documentaries detailing the events leading up to the spectacular failure that was the Fyre Festival, as well as its aftermath. Hold onto your butts, people!

On the podcast this week, we're diving' into the Netflix original film Dumplin, starring Danielle McDonald and Jennifer Aniston. No one would have ever pegged Willow Dean (Danielle McDonald) was the type to compete in a beauty pageant, but if she's ever going to get her obsessive mother to see her as anything other than "Dumplin", she's gonna have to show out like she's never shown out before!

We finally talk about the Netflix original movie that EVERYBODY is talking about on this week's episode, as Sandra Bullock plays a mother trying to survive a supernatural apocalypse in Bird Box. Humanity is pushed to the brink of extinction as a people fall victim to creatures that can drive you insane if you look at them, and any excursions outside of the shelter of a house or building, requires being blindfolded.

Ghosts, werewolves, and shitty pizza all collide in a sleepy town where delivery boys are being murdered, as we talk about the horror/comedy Slice on this week's episode. Chance the Rapper plays Dax, a reluctant werewolf with a mysterious past whose return to the town of Kingfisher coincides with a string of pizza deliver boy murders, thus leading authorities to target him as a prime suspect.

WE HAVE DONE IT!!!!! We have reached a major milestone, and we couldn't be happier! We're grateful to the folks who made it out to The Pinch in Washington DC as we recorded our 100th EPISODE!!!!! We put it to a vote, and most folks made it pretty clear that they wanted us to cover the trippy, psychedelic fever dream of bloody revenge that is Mandy, starring Nicholas Cage, Andrea Riceborough, and Linus Roach. When a murderous cult captures a woman named Mandy, her companion Red will stop at nothing to tear through the cult members one by one to dispense some good old fashion, 80s-inspired personal justice.

This week, we're talking' about a ass-kickin', lady-lovin' brotha who's outta sight. . . and he goes by the name of BLACK DYNAMITE!!!!! When some jive turkeys kill his brother, Black Dynamite (Michael J. White) will have to hit the streets hard to get to the bottom of one of most diabolical schemes of all time!

This week, we're checking out the insanity that is Batman Ninja. In this heavily stylized anime adventure, the Caped Crusader is transported back in time to feudal Japan, and studies the ways of the ninja to do battle with everyone from Gorilla Grodd, to Two-Face, Penguin, Poison Ivy, and The Joker and Harley Quinn.

Things start to spiral for a suicidal army vet turned freelance enforcer in the hauntingly engaging You Were Never Really Here, as Joe (Joaquin Phoenix)is hired to find a missing young girl, and stumbles into the dark corners of corruption and greed.

This week, we're talking about the Netflix original cyber thriller Cam, where a young woman (Madeline Brewer)makes her living online as the cam girl Lola, getting money and gifts for doing racy live video shows. Things are looking up until Alice discovers that someone has taken over her channel . . . someone who looks exactly like her.

Not to be confused with Blumhouse's Truth or Dare which was released earlier this year, THIS Truth or Dare is . . . basically the exact same film! But we knew we had to talk about it anyway, as eight college friends are pulling into a supernatural and game of truth or dare where they have to do the dare . . . before the dare does them!
