In this week's installment of Catching Up On Cinema's 'Preciating Peter Weller event month, Kyle and Trevor review "that rat movie", George P. Cosmatos' Of Unknown Origin (1983)!
Featuring Peter Weller in his first starring role, the film is a lean and energetic man vs. beast film in the tradition of Moby Dick or Jaws.
Often ridiculous in the best of ways, the film is buoyed by clever editing and a winning performance from Mr. Weller.

In this week's episode of Catching Up On Cinema's 'Preciating Peter Weller event month, Kyle and Trevor take a look at W.D. Richter's 80's cult classic(?), The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension (1984)!
Starring Peter Weller as the titular Banzai, and featuring a charming of notables such as Jeff Goldblum, Ellen Barkin, Clancy Brown, John Lithgow, and Christopher Lloyd, the movie is an obscure cult film that in some ways bears a closer resemblance to an absurdist art project.
Presented in a format similar to Star Wars Episode IV, or perhaps more appropriately, Leonard Part 6, Buckaroo Banzai comes at you hard and fast with references to previous adventures and concepts that have not, nor ever will come to pass.
Possessed of an surplus of creativity and a deficit of energy, the film threatens to be wholly unapproachable at times, but is just barely saved by the charisma and relative gameness of it's cast.

It's once again time for Catching Up On Cinema's monthly "Tales From the Shelf" episode!
In this month's installment, Trevor is once again joined by Brad of the Cinema Speak podcast, as the 2 share their picks for their respective "Nifty Name Stacks".
For the unintiated, a Name Stack is simply a stack of movies that, when you take the first letter of their respective titles and arrange them in order, comprises the name of the owner.
Example:
T - Titanic
R - The Road Warrior
E - E.T. the Extraterrestrial, etc.

In this week's installment of Catching Up On Cinema's 'Preciating Peter Weller month, Kyle and Trevor take a look at Christian Duguay's Screamers (1995)!
Based on a story by Philip K. Dick, the film is an impressively shot, but sluggishly paced sci-fi slog that features some stellar matte paintings and foundational story elements, but ultimately fails to engage.

June is 'Preciating Peter Weller month at Catching Up On Cinema!
This month we'll take taking a look at the filmography of Peter Weller, a prominent leading man from the 80's and 90's that holds the proud distinction of not only portraying Robocop, but also serving as the voice of Batman in the animated adaptation of The Dark Knight Returns!
This week, we're jumping smack into the middle of Mr. Weller's filmography with a review of Irvin Kershner's Robocop 2 (1990)!
Lighter in tone than it's predecessor, but nearly as clever and violent, the film is a worthy sequel that is often overlooked.
Featuring some of Phil Tippet's best stop-motion animation, the movie is a splashy and colorful special effects showcase that is definitely worth a look for any fans of the original film.

In the final episode of Catching Up On Cinema's "May is For Monsters" event, Kyle and Trevor revisit Victor Salva's, Jeepers Creepers (2001)!
Starring Gina Philips and Justin Long, the film is a surprisingly well shot and tightly constructed chase film.
Featuring a memorable design for the titular Creeper, and a handful of fun scare moments, the film manages to achieve quite a bit in spite of it's modest budget.

Directed by Heo Jong-ho, and starring Kim Myung-min, Lee Hye-ri, and Choi Woo-shik, the film is spectacle driven monster on the loose flick set during Korea's Joseon era.

In this week's installment of Catching Up On Cinema's "May is for Monsters" event month, Kyle has our hosts review Conor McMahon's, From the Dark (2014)!
Shot on a shoestring budget in the Irish countryside, the film is one part relationship drama, one part home invasion creature feature set in an isolated farmhouse.
With only a couple of standout moments throughout it's runtime, the film is not exactly a hidden gem, however the conversation that springs from our viewing of the film made it worth our time in the end.
Brace yourself for a lot of references to and quotes from a lot of other, better films!
