*WARNING!* Total spoilers for Godzilla: King of the Monsters! *WARNING!*
In this special Theatrical Edition of Catching Up On Cinema, Kyle and Trevor head out to the theater to check out the 3rd entry in Legendary's "Monsterverse" franchise, Michael Dougherty's Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019)!
Featuring the heaviest of heavy hitters in the long lived Godzilla franchise, the movie is an unapologetic love letter to the older generation Godzilla films.
While the human aspect of the story and plot is both problematic and unintentionally silly, the monster action is solid, and as Trevor mentions early on in the episode, most of the film's weaker aspects can actually be interpreted as the filmmaker's remaining true to the source material.
Kyle Chandler, beating off to the sounds of wolves eating!
Vera Farmiga as perhaps the most unstable and unforgivable character in recent film history!
Millie Bobby Brown as the "Kenny" of the film!
Ken Watanabe, sacrificing himself for to enhance the film's Chinese box office earnings!
Zhang Ziyi as 2 different characters! How the Hell did I miss that!?
Charles Dance, somehow failing to go "full evil" over the course of a 2 hour+ movie!
And Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan and King Ghidorah, delivering the goods on the few occasions the editor sees fit to let them!

In the 2nd installment in Catching Up On Cinema's "Franchise Month," Trevor forces Kyle to subject himself to Sam Mendes' 2nd go 'round at the James Bond franchise: Spectre (2015)!
Boasting a strong cast and truly magnificent cinematography, the film is dragged down by a clumsy, lackluster script, and is regarded by many as one of the lesser Bond films of the modern era.
It needs to be said upfront, Trevor is an avid Bond fan, while Kyle is a casual viewer at best.
Daniel Craig, looking for a way out of the franchise since 2008!
Lea Seydoux, not nearly as hot if you take away the accent!
Christoph Waltz, as "Totally Not Blofeld"!
Dave Bautista, denied a speaking role, but here to save the movie anyway!
Special guest appearance by Gary Busey!

It's the first week of June, so naturally the boys are reviewing... David Gordon Green's Halloween (2018)?
This month's reviews will be part of something we're casually referring to as "Franchise Month."
Essentially, the idea this month is to tackle the most recent films in long lived franchises.
Streamlining the franchise canon by disregarding the events of all the Halloween films aside from the 1978 original, Halloween 2018 is a slick and pleasantly restrained entry in the series that pulls double duty as both a satisfying capstone to the series, as well as (very likely) the kickoff point for a future films.
Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode, badass grannie!
Judy Greer as a mom! Of course!
John Carpenter, returning as composer and truly fuckin' bringing it!
Michael Meyers, finding time for arts and crafts in between murdering folks!
"It's not a cage... It's a trey-ahp."

Catching Up On Keanu month draws to a close as Kyle has Trevor sit down to watch Carl Rinsch's universally reviled pseudo-Japanese fantasy action flick, 47 Ronin (2013)!
A troubled production that saw the woefully inexperienced director removed from the project in it's post-production stages, the film represents the perfect storm of a bad script, given to painfully untalented director gifted with far too generous a budget.
Keanu as a hapa samurai that is generally kind of a dick and has the superpower of being able to move at slightly above average speeds!
Hiroyuki Sanada as the coolest person in the movie that gets far too little screentime!
Tadanobu Asano and Rinko Kikuchi as the 2nd and 3rd coolest people in the movie with nothing to do!
Cary Hiroyuki Tagawa as a lord presiding over a tournament, and he DOESN'T yell "YOUR SOUL, IS MINE!"???
Silver Samurai! Tattoo Man that was ALL OVER the marketing and appears in one scene! Gedde "Long Duk Dong" Watanabe!?

*WARNING!* Total spoilers for John Wick 3! *WARNING!*
In a special Theatrical Edition of Catching Up On Cinema, Kyle and Trevor sit down to review the Keanu Reeves action flick, John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum (2019)!
The centerpiece of Catching Up On Keanu month, the film is a wholly satisfying action extravaganza packed to the gills with extraordinary choreography, violence, and who's who of notables from the stunt world.
Books, guns, knives, horses!?
Tiger Chen fighting with and killed by his good friend Keanu!
Crotches being shot and bitten with alarming frequency!
Keanu getting thrown through all of the glass in New York city!

For the third installment in our "Catching Up On Keanu" month, Trevor has Kyle sit down to watch the only film ever directed by Keanu Reeves, Man of Tai Chi (2013)!
Starring longtime collaborator and friend of Keanu's, Tiger Chen, the film is a quaint, but technically sound action film that was seemingly built from the ground up to be a showcase of the at the time largely unknown Chen's martial arts ability.
Featuring token appearance by several noteworthy martial arts actors, including Iko Uwais and Silvio Simac, the movie is a love letter to the genre that fails to break any new ground, but proudly justifies it's existence with the obvious signs of care and and commitment put forth by the lead actors and director.
Tiger Chen, failing to emote but wowing with his tai chi prowess!
Keanu Reeves, lookin' kind of stiff and making "ghost face" into the camera at random!
Iko Uwais, in his least satisfying role this side of The Force Awakens!

In this 2nd installment in our "Catching Up On Keanu" month, Kyle selects the 1996 action-thriller, Chain Reaction (1996)!
Directed by prolific action director Andrew Davis, the film is a rather conventional thriller in the tradition of films such as The Fugitive (which was also directed by Davis) and The Net.
Starring Keanu Reeves as a physicist/machinist/musician, Rachel Weisz as his main squeeze, and Morgan Freeman as the friendliest morally dubious bad guy(?) in cinema history, the movie is largely average, but very nostalgic for those us who were young during this particular era in action movie history.
A boring plot bookended by 2 giant explosions!
Morgan Freeman, making cigars look sexy!
Baby Rachel Weisz as the most delightful drunk in cinema history!
Brian Cox, flaunting his impeccable Southern accent and giving Steven Seagal a run for his money in the "Worst Run in Cinema History" competition!
And a welcome cameo from a very young and spindly Michael Shannon as a flower delivery man!

In anticipation of the theatrical release of John Wick Chapter 3 - Parabellum, we've declared May 2019 to be "Catching Up On Keanu" month!
Each week in May, Kyle and Trevor will take turns selecting a Keanu Reeves film that they'd like to review for the show.
In this first episode of "Catching Up On Keanu" month, Trevor selects the grotesque lovechild of Ren, Stimpy, and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Freaked (1993)!
Cheating the system a bit, Keanu actually only appears in the film in an uncredited capacity, while his longtime friend Alex Winters stars in, co-wrote and co-directed the film along with Tom Stern and Tim Burns.
Alex Winter acting like Jim Carrey in Gremlin makeup!
Keanu Reeves as Ortiz the Dog Boy!
Randy Quaid as an insta-tanned ringmaster!
A man with a sock for a head, sentient rastafarian eyeballs, a man farting an eternal flame, and a giant pile of shit shaped like Winona Ryder!
