Minute Nine: From The Killing of a Nordic Tower Keeper to Asthma IneligibilityJoining us on the show today and all week, we have Kurtis Findlay from the Epic Marvel Podcast.In the ninth minute of Joe Johnston’s 2011 film Captain America: The First Avenger...Turns out, Schmidt was telling the Tower Keeper that he already has burned. Is that metaphoric, like that he’s so evil he’s already in Hell? Or is he referencing the experiments he underwent to become Red Skull? Or both? Certainly seems that way as he kills the Tower Keeper in cold blood and orders the village executed.
Plus, there’s a nice hint regarding the impending red skull.
We jump through time and land a few years later in Brooklyn to see a puny Steve Rogers trying to get approved for army duty. So much to discuss about Chris Evans, the effects to create the puny version of him, and of course Leander Deeny, who is Evans’ body double for the smaller body size. We also talk about newspapers and historical events, trying to gauge when this likely happened.
Even though we know this is Flag Day, 1943.
The 4F Doc doesn’t admit Steve, even though he seems eager. But we learn more about his parents and get a sense of him as a hero. And he tells Steve he’d be rejected for his asthma alone.
