  • Palm Springs (2020)

Summer is coming! And as the world tries its best to get back to something that can be even remotely considered normal, we here at CRM aren't so sure the summer of '21 will be much different than the last one.

With that on our minds, this week's pick is Palm Springs. It's a fun little time loop comedy in the vein Groundhog day or Edge of Tomorrow (Live, Die, Repeat). In this story, Andy Samberg & Cristin Milioti play two people stuck in the same time loop who gradually learn how to navigate a relationship while living the same day over and over.

  • Moonlight (2016)

Well well well, look who decided to show up for another year (?) of movie reviews from two slackers who don't have any better way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

We've thoroughly re-thunk our lives in the fallout of '81, and with Oscar fever swiftly filling up hospital beds we decided to look to the recent past and find a movie that actually deserved the statue it got to take home.

That move is Moonlight, Barry Jenkins's 2016 slow moving drama that follows a character and the people in his life across three distinct stages of his life.

  • The Dogs of '81: Part 2

It's time to close the books on our first year of this here podcast with a string of rehashed IPs that prove that even 40 years ago Hollywood big wigs were still trying their damnedest to cash in on nostalgia.

  • The Dogs of '81: Part 1

Hallelujah! We've made it one full year of the podcast and what better way to celebrate than serving up a bowl of stinkers from the year of our lord 1981. Hard to believe that 40 years ago our lord and savior bestowed upon his flock some of the lousiest motion pictures to ever grace your local box office.

To start us off on our special 2-part anniversary episode, we're joined by our spiritual familiars Gene & Roger who watch us from the great balcony in the sky where the popcorn is fresh and the refills are free. They'll guide us through the gauntlet of cinema trash to hopefully come out the other side with a few bumps and bruises but still alive and hey that's what really counts, am I right?

This week Randy picks three movies from Gene & Roger's rogues gallery, starting with Burt Reynolds and a host of other Holllywood locals with no jobs lined up for the summer in Cannonball Run. Next we'll watch Jerry Lewis's return to directing in Hardly Working, a movie that's loved by the French... Then we'll round out the list with Halloween II, a movie that may or may not deserve a spot on this list. Will we agree with Gene & Roger? The answer may surprise you.

Catch Gene & Roger's Dogs of 1981 special here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w6YfZVfSEr8

Thank you all for one year of CRM!

  • Raw Deal (1986)

Giddy-up pardner, it's time once again for another episode of Cathode Ray Mission (CRM if you're busy). This week we watch America's favorite Austrian hillbilly take on the mafia in 1986's Raw Deal, an early Arnold Schwarzenegger action flick that may have the best use of 'Satisfaction' in film history.

  • Dolittle (2020)

This week we explore Robert Downey Jr.'s post-Iron Man career starting with 2020's Dolittle. It's a pre-pandemic flop that cost way too much money and features way too many good actors in a stunningly bad movie. Will Randy and Will enjoy this movie? The answer may surprise you.
