In more recent times, there have been continued advancements by evidentialists in showing Christianity is probably true. People like Clark Pinnock, John Warwick Montgomery, and Richard Swinburne have continued the traditions of the evidentialists by engaging in apologetics who emphasize fact.

Our next apologetic method was both a step away from classical apologetics and a response to deism. During the modern period, the rise of the evidentialists came forth. Led by men like Joseph Butler and William Paley, they used apologetics who empasize facts and the use of empiricism.

We close out our look at the classical method by looking at the weaknesses of classical apologetics. We are not drumming anyone out of the faith or decrying heretics here. We’re taking a reasoned and logical approach to the method and that’s exactly how classical apologists would want it.

We conclude the classical apologetic answers with looking at the universe, evil, miracles, & Jesus for classical apologists. We cover the mighty Kalam Argument and the main approach of using free will to explain evil. Then the fact that miracles are not violations of reality is pushed for God entering into His creation. Finally, Jesus is presented as either liar, lunatic, or Lord and we all must decide which one He is.

For the classical apologist, reason is king. It’s available to everyone and is God-given in the universe. As such the rationality of the Christian worldview for the apologist is the path to go down when it comes to the use of Scripture, disproving other worldviews, and arguing for the moral case for God’s existence.

We finish up looking at what Classical Apologists say concerning the last three sections of the meta-analysis. Classical on science, history, & experience bring their focus on reason to bear when it comes to the discussion of how these three areas fit into their Christian philosophy.

We’ve looked at the history and who has represented Classical Apologetics, we look at the six main apologetic questions all Christian apologetics have to answer. Here, the classical approach looks at the goal of making faith reasonable. How do they do so? By showing there is no conflict between faith and reason and that logic and philosophy aid them in showing Christianity to be true.

Patrick and Tony were invited onto Jeremiah Campana’s podcast Anatomy Of The Church And State. We discussed many different aspects of apologetics and the role it has in the believer’s lives. This was a great way to talk about the summation of many of the books we’ve discussed on our show. It was also a fun challenge to get some rapid-fire questions on a number of different questions any believer may face these days.
So for this week’s episode, we want to highlight Jeremiah’s show in this interview and hope you watch it.

Why are Christian apologetics important? Apologetics provides a framework for Christians to understand and defend their faith in a world that is increasingly hostile to Christianity. Apologetics can also help Christians to better understand their own faith and to articulate it more clearly to others. Join me and the hosts of the Cave To The Cross Podcast as we discuss!
