Now we really kick off the book by looking at our first of four main apologetic methods – classical apologetics. Our authors define their terms (always a welcome) and provide the history of classical apologetics. We then cover two of the four examples of classical apologists – saving the biggest for next week.

Finishing up the overview of our four apologetic methods that will be covered in the book we address how the book will organize, codify, and systematize each method. That’s just fancy talk for how the book will show the different aspects of the apologetics methods.
In this episode, we cover the 6 meta questions of apologetics that any good method would need to cover. There are also 6 common objections that each apologetic method should answer as well. With these two sections in mind, along with providing an overview and giving examples of those who have historically held these methods, this provides a great evaluation tool for each of the four methods.

Well after the first 1,000 years of Christian apologetics, it also makes sense that we cover the next 1,000 years. Here we see more responses taking place and the inclusion of philosophy and codification and systematizing of theology. As a result, more apologetics occurs and more ways to systematize apologetics is done.
While this is a brief overview, we would encourage first-hand reading of many of these names and not just the ones listed here and not just during this second millennium of Christian apologetics. Ad fontes then continue!

We went through the first 100 years of Christian Apologetics starting in year 0, now we cover the first 1,000 years of Christian apologetics. History and especially Church History is important because to figure out how we are here we have to see the road that led us to standing at our current crossroads. And what we see is not a monolith apologetic take.
So join our time travel adventure as we go through the early Church Fathers starting in the 2nd century and pausing after those in the Middle Ages as we tiptoe through Church History and how they did their apologetics. And we see they all did, in fact, do apologetics.

As Bible believers, we want to do all the things The Bible says we are to do so as to honor God in the best way we can. So when it comes to apologetics, we’d really like a scriptural mandate for apologetics. Well, not only do we get ones explicitly but we also get examples of multiple people doing apologetics.

We kick off our discussion of our next book Faith Has Its Reasons by Kenneth Boa & Robert M. Bowman Jr. with one of our favorite topics – definitions. In defining apologetics we focus on the the four main approaches the book covers and how they’ll be covered. By starting first with definitions we are able to best track the scope and depth of the topics covered. To use a sports-ball reference, definitions help us to know whether to put on pads to get hit in or cloves to field a small spherical object.
Join us on one our favorite books that we believe cover the history and different approaches to apologetics fairly and in very helpful detail.

Pastor Josh from The Anarchist Bible Study podcast shines some bright lights in places in the Church where we might be missing – or not wanting to look. How can we be actively sanctifying the Church and the family? As a youth pastor as well, Josh gives his State Of The Church Kids. Are they all declaring gender a social spectrum or is tradition reigning supreme? Then comes the hard part which is challenging those of us as parents on how to help raise up our children. Finally, he provides a nice helping of a white pill for our current place in history.

Pastor Josh aka Iowancap from The Anarchist Bible Study joins the program to give his State Of The Church Address 2023. In it, we build on the back of Ligonier’s 2022 State of Theology. Josh talks about why definitions in the church matter and what it means when people in the church don’t agree with those definitions. Then we discuss the role America is playing in the Church and if there is a time soon approaching when God will move the focus out of America to another location.
