The Town of Grand Falls-Windsor is looking at plans to improve recreation opportunities for its residents. The town is already pretty well off when it comes to recreation facilities, with two ice rinks, a YMCA with a swimming pool, and a relatively new cross-country ski hut But some of those buildings are showing their age so the town council wants to build a new, multi-sport facility. Barry Manuel is the mayor.
For several years now, we've heard teachers talk about being overworked and stressed out. They say they come encounter or see harassment - and even violence in the classroom. Teachers also worry about how to include students who have disabilities and mental health issues. In the big picture, they say, things have to change. The provincial government's appointed education accord team is working on it. Anne Burke, co-chair of the team, spoke with the CBC's Leigh Anne Power.
A woman from the Northern Peninsula who's getting cancer treatment in St. John's said she did everything she could to give her children a good Christmas, but one of the presents she bought still hasn't arrived. Louise Reid ordered her 13-year-old daughter's present from Best Buy early in November because she wanted it to get to her home in St. Lunaire-Griquet even if she herself couldn't get home for Christmas. Reid knew that a Canada Post strike was looming. Now, two months later, Reid has been home for Christmas and back to St. John's again for more treatments, and the package she ordered still hasn't been delivered. No one can tell her what's happened to it, or if or when it will show up.
Getting groceries isn't always easy in Newfoundland and Labrador, especially if you don't live near a major grocery store. But the Big Feed Club has been offering a solution for the past few years: The company delivers groceries door-to-door across the island. There are goods from the big chains --- such as Costco --- and from local suppliers. Now, the company is expanding its services onto the Bonavista Peninsula. Brad Russell is the CEO of Big Feed Club.

Meta is changing how it fact-checks or moderates what is said on its platforms. That raises concerns about a potential increase in racist and anti-LGBTQ-plus comments. Meta's new guidelines have prompted one person to shake her head and announce her departure from the platforms. CBC's Leila Beaudoin spoke with Amanda Bittner from Memorial University about the situation.

In 1975, the Deer Lake Library opened its doors to the public for the very first time. Turn the pages to 50 years later, and the library is celebrating the remarkable milestone of a half-century. A lot has changed , but the library is still a community cornerstone. The CBC's Amy Feehan attended the anniversary celebration this week.
The government's debate over the new Churchill Falls deal ended last night, but not without a little drama. Rather than vote on the potential new deal with Quebec, Progressive Conservatives stormed out of the House of Assembly. The Tories have demanded more independent oversight of the deal, and they weren’t satisfied with a government plan to task the consumer advocate with that oversight. CBC reporter Darrell Roberts was in the House for the vote last night.
