  • #101 - "Just Pray About It" ft/ Briana Lewis
On this episode of the Corporate Coke & Smack podcast, we talked about a subject that is getting more attention than it has ever had due to the current state of society. Civilians are under more stress than ever in regards to daily life and the stress that so many people experience is going untreated. We had the honor of being joined by Briana Lewis who is the owner of Inspired Living Counseling & Consulting, a mental health agency based out of Florida. She is a Licensed Mental Health Therapist with specialization in depression, anxiety, and complex trauma.
The reason for this show is because mental health is somewhat of a taboo in many black communities. To many people are coping with mental issues through drugs, alcohol, and sex. The proper way to address any issue is through therapy. During this episode, Briana touched on how this passion of hers is bringing change to the stigma of therapy. A talking point that stuck out was the difference in accessibility of mental health counseling on HBCU campuses versus PWI institutions. She is a graduate of Florida A&M University and University of Central Florida. The disparity she saw in the transparency of the subject on the two campuses was a call to action.
We also touched on how the church has led people to just "pray about it" versus taking steps to properly address mental illnesses. Faith requires actions beyond a prayer. It is normal for humans to express positive and negative emotions. How you deal with them is what makes a lasting impact on the individual. If you are experiencing abnormal thoughts, we encourage you to reach out to Briana or any local therapist. Be sure to check with your employer about a Employee Assistance Program (EAP) to check your eligibility for covering the cost of these appointments.
Corporate Coke & Smack felt this episode was necessary because too often this subject is swept under the rug or a family member is calling you "crazy". It is time to properly diagnose any abnormalities and get back to living your best life!

  • #100 - Real Wealth Shit ft/ @Joshthedavid
The centennial episode. Number 100! Let me tell y'all now. Get real comfortable, put all the distractions to the side because this episode is filled with real wealth shit and actionable insight. CC Smack had the privilege of bringing Josh David on the show. Air Force vet, urban gardener, software consultant and real estate developer. I could go on for days. That is how incredible he is in which you hear throughout this episode.
Josh David starts off by giving gratitude to his upbringing and his family which opened his eyes to the many possibilities to succeed in business. He touches on how his grandmother sparked his interest in many of his current hobbies and how it was important for him to carry on the legacy.
The show transitions to a major problem in which many professional athletes deal with. That problem is properly managing the multi-million dollar contracts that they are awarded upon being drafted. We discuss how athletes are viewed as the meal ticket for the entire family and how the dynamic needs to change in order for less athletes to go broke shortly after their playing careers over. This then leads to the discussion of the ability to be successful outside of entertainment and sports. the black community often looks as these 2 careers as the easiest way to riches. The sports and entertainment industry can provide that but what is your backup plan if that fails?
Josh David speaks on his involvement and real estate and how this has allowed him to build wealth through various projects including tax lien acquisitions and land leases among other things. It is no secret, real estate is historically the #1 creator of wealth for the majority of families. He touches on his current projects and even gives free game how you can get started right after listening to this episode.
We close out the show with personal development talk and how your mindset has to change in order to get desirable results. When something isn't working, you have to change your routine in order to see better results. Don't be afraid to ask questions and use Google as your "virtual assistant". Josh consistently gives out pro tips on Twitter. Be sure to check him out at @Joshthedavid!

  • #99 - 40 Acres & A Mule
What an interesting week we just wrapped up. Did anyone check out the reparations hearing that Congress held Wednesday? Josh & Tobe discuss what criteria surrounds reparations and are there qualifications for them. Are reparations truly realistic considering the climate we currently live in and what sacrifice would those who receive them, have to make?
Tobe gives up an update on his savings goal for the year and also why do savings matter. Saving money seems to be a difficult task for the average American. Josh speaks about how his ability to save opened the opportunity for him to recently partner on a couple real estate acquisitions.
Has anyone heard of a potential bill that would remove private mortgage insurance once a borrower reaches 22% equity in their mortgage loan. This is still up in the air so we can't guarantee you it will be a thing of the future. With a conventional mortgage loan, PMI (private mortgage insurance)is required until you have 20% equity in the value of the home. on a FHA loan, you currently pay PMI for the duration of the loan. That is the tradeoff for only having to pay a minimum of 3.5% as your down payment. If this bill is to be passed, could we possibly see an increase in 1st time home ownership?
We also touch the recent developments between US & Iran, The We Work IPO, the Givling app in which you can win prizes that are credited to your student loan debt, and much MORE!

  • #98 - True To The Game
Wow can you imagine we are closing in on 100 episodes. We are glad to have Tobe back as he has now completed the CFA Level 2 exam and awaiting his results. This week was action packed as we touched on topics in many different industries. We started off by discussing a new education repayment plan created by Purdue University. The plan would allow students to pay no money upfront but instead, pay a percentage of their income for 10 years post graduation.
In the world of tech, the US has disallowed the sales of Hauwei devices due to homeland security issues. Hauwei has been known to plant chips in their phone that are able to spy and record calls. This is going to dramatically affect Hauwei's revenue over the next 2 years if this ban remains in affect.
The options for the vegan community are starting to pile up. Tyson's recently announced they are getting in on the vegan burger craze. Beyond Meat seems to be the most popular brand right now. Their stock has fared very well since the IPO (initial public offering) last month. Tyson's is a more mature company and has a bigger capitalization. We'll keep an eye on how much market share Tyson's will be able to obtain.
How could I forget about Daddy DotCom or Elon Musk. Elon Musk temporarily changed his screen name on Twitter over the weekend. Is this a sign that a big announcement is approaching? We'll have to wait and see. We also touched on a legal battle that is looming with Google, the Raptors' championship season, and more!
