One place of failure need not be the place where we remain.

It can become the very place of redemption and restoration—when Jesus reaches out… and He does.

Just as He reached out to Peter around a charcoal fire, He reaches out to you as well.

So respond to Him.

Because the only question He asks is this:

“Do you love Me?”

And the answer, beloved, is simply this:

restoration begins.

John 19:16–42 recounts Jesus’ crucifixion, where He bears His suffering with purpose, fulfills Scripture, and declares, “It is finished,” signifying the completion of His redemptive work. After His death, confirmed by the piercing of His side, His body is respectfully taken down and prepared for burial by Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus. The passage highlights both the depth of His sacrifice and the quiet faith of those who stepped forward to honor Him, even in the shadow of the cross.

Luke 23:26–49 describes Jesus being led to crucifixion, where He speaks words of compassion and warning, even as He suffers, and is crucified between criminals. While one criminal mocks Him, the other expresses faith and is promised paradise, highlighting both rejection and repentance at the cross. As Jesus dies, darkness falls, the temple curtain is torn, and a centurion declares His innocence, revealing the significance of His death and the response it evokes.

Luke 23:1–25 describes Jesus being brought before Pontius Pilate, then sent to Herod Antipas, where He is mocked but found without guilt. Despite repeated declarations of His innocence, the crowd demands His crucifixion and insists on the release of Barabbas instead. Under pressure, Pilate yields to their demands, handing Jesus over to be crucified, highlighting both the injustice of the trial and the power of the crowd.

Mark 14:53–72 recounts Jesus being tried before the high priest and council, where false witnesses accuse Him, and He affirms His identity as the Son of Man. While Jesus stands firm under pressure, Peter, following at a distance, denies Him three times out of fear. The passage contrasts Jesus’ faithfulness with human weakness, as Peter realizes his failure and breaks down in repentance.

Matthew 26:26–46 moves from the institution of the Lord’s Supper, where Jesus identifies the bread and cup with His body and blood, to His prediction of the disciples’ failure. It then leads into Gethsemane, where Jesus wrestles in deep anguish yet submits fully to the Father’s will. John 17:1–19 records Jesus praying to the Father, asking to be glorified so that He may reveal eternal life to those given to Him. He prays for His disciples, that they would be protected, remain united, and be filled with His joy as they live in the world but are not of it. Jesus also asks that they be sanctified by the truth of God’s Word and set apart for the mission for which He is sending them.
