Celia Rose Gooding, Babs Olusanmokun, and Melissa Navia are actors who are all cast in the show
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
Celia Rose Gooding plays Ensign Nyota Uhura. In season 3 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Uhura experiences a significant transformation, including processing past trauma and forming new connections, both professionally and romantically, even exploring a surprising connection with Ortegas's younger brother. According to SciFi Vision, fans can expect to see a more romantic and caring side of Uhura, with her emotional growth reflected in her changing hairstyles.
- Babs Olusanmokun portrays Dr. Joseph M'Benga. M'Benga's role in the series provides the opportunity to explore a character who was given limited appearances in the original Star Trek series, allowing for development of his backstory and internal struggles. In season 3, M'Benga will be grappling with inner demons and actively seeking a lighter path, trying to move past his dark experiences. SciFi Vision notes that M'Benga will experience real pain in his role as caretaker in an interesting storyline involving a very ill protégé who "turns".
- Melissa Navia stars as Lieutenant Erica Ortegas. The character of Ortegas, while new to the world of Star Trek, pays homage to Gene Roddenberry's original vision for the crew of the Enterprise. Navia sees Ortegas as embodying the ideals of Starfleet and the optimistic spirit at the heart of the franchise. According to SciFi Vision, Ortegas's personal life and Latin background will be explored further in season three, including a sibling rivalry with her younger brother joining the crew.
