The Celtics and Trail Blazers traded leads over 20 times late into the fourth quarter when Jayson Tatum sunk a side-step three ahead by one to ice the game as Damian Lillard and the Trail Blazers pushed back from down eight with a barrage of shots. Marcus Smart guarded Jusuf Nurkic, stole passes and race full-court to cut off an Enes Kanter pass at one point. The Celtics trapped Lillard successfully twice late in the fourth, and forced the Blazers to commit 14 turnovers. Kemba Walker pushed the pace, reached the basket and scored 21 points in one of his best performances all year and Boston held on by one point after a Norman Powell three led Smart and Brad Stevens to draw up an intentional free throw miss and trap on the rebound. Boston has won 9-of-11 since starting Robert Williams III after the trade deadline and reached the fifth seed in the east.
