Spending time in God's word brings change. To delight in the word of God, is to be changed by it.

God's word is provided to us so we can know Him and be with him.

How do we, as a church, grow in our purity of heart before God? By seeking God in His Word and speaking God's words.

The Word of God is not to be trifled with. It cannot be ignored, brushed off, or summarily dismissed. It holds sway over our lives whether we want it to or not. So, it would behoove us to listen.

Our feelings often lie. Isaiah interrupts our fearful stream of questions and shows us we do not need to be shackled to fear anymore. He does not say—there is nothing to be afraid of. There is. There always is. He is

going to show us that while there are many good reasons TO be afraid, there is one reason NOT to: God is yours, and you are his.

Your life, my life all of our lives tell stories of devotion. But to what? To whom? What does the story of your life say you are most devoted to?

Behold the incomparable Christ!

The nation believed in God but their imaginations were captured by idols. We can do the exact same thing. This ancient book of Isaiah has a modern message for us this morning: Turn from your idols and entrust yourself to Jesus.

As we reclaim a high and lofty view of God we must not imagine that he is remote to our needs and weaknesses. When our view of God is too small, he doesn’t make much of a difference in our lives. A small God does not have the time to help us. And if he had the time he probably wouldn’t be able to do much. Yet, our God is not what we expect. He is high and lifted up AND with us in our troubles. He is the Almighty AND the one who strengthens his people. He is the Lord of hosts AND the Lord of the small details of our lives. And today—Isaiah tells us this: Come close to God and experience him.

Your idea of who God is, my idea of who God is, our collective idea of who God is, is way too small. Our small gods can do nothing. You see, the smaller your god, the

bigger your problems. But we have reason to hope for better things. We are not left without an enduring testimony from the MOST HIGH. The Lord of

Hosts bids us come and behold him in his grandeur.

Today, we are going to seek to remedy our pitiful, scrawny gods by beholding the God of the Bible together. Swap your little god for THE God.
