To understand the PECULIAR love of God we have to ALSO see his PECULIAR patience. He does not lash out in punishment. He offers warning after warning after warning in the face of defiance. He has a love that is peculiar because he RELENTLESSLY pursues the wandering.

The God of the Bible is not a vending machine that his people come to pop a couple prayers in the slot and out comes what you want. God won't be used. God does not exist to do for us all that we want. God does not offer a life that ";works," but he offers something much better: that we can KNOW him.

The spectacle of God's love that we see throughout Hosea should jar us out of any confusion regarding God's love. When we see God for who he really is; and grasp his peculiar love, he will begin to have more weight in our lives. He will begin to matter more. He won't just be a part of our lives, but all our lives.

As a fixed point of reference on the horizon can fend off seasickness, similarly a fixed point of reference in our journey through 2021 and beyond can fend off something much worse than seasickness-spiritual ineffectiveness. Our goal must be to make Jesus our continual reference point on the horizon of all our lives.

In 2021 we want to remain firmly fixed on Jesus - together. How do each of us do that? By building our lives, our futures, our hopes, our EVERYTHING on JESUS!
