The end is not about escape but restoration. Those of us who are Christ Followers have a part to play in the last days. Jesus reminds us clearly in Matthew 24:14 that a great awakening and revival will precede his return and, in the meantime, we are to be about our Fathers business just like Jesus was when He was on this earth.

In Matthew 24:6-10, Jesus lists some scary things that are going to happen as the end of the world approaches. It’s disturbing enough that some people just skip this part of the text and move to the good stuff. In reality, you can’t have the good stuff without the hard stuff. When we think about the end of the world, most of us probably think about the anti-christ, wars, violence and chaos. Although Jesus acknowledges all of these things, He seems much more concerned about something else that will usher in the end. God is more interested in your next step than your last mistake. This is a truth referenced over and over again in the pages of Scripture and maybe no place more so than the parable of the Prodigal Son in Luke 15. This story reminds us that no matter where we’ve been, where we are and where we think we’re going, God will always be the first to welcome us home with open arms!

Faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. The last three Fruits of the Spirit noted by Paul and their position on the list come with a purpose. Just like you need love to start growing the Fruits of the Spirit in your life, you can’t sustain the growth that is started without these three disciplines. In this final sermon of the series, we are reminded that good fruit is about  letting God work the soil of your life today, and trusting Him with the harvest that’s coming tomorrow.

In Galatians 5:22-23, the Apostle Paul gives us a list of nine attributes he describes as “Fruits of the Spirit” Part of living a Spirit filled life is to live a life full of these things and the list starts with love, joy and peace.
