We will introduce our new sermon series this Sunday, June 23, by looking into what it means to “become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

This Sunday, Father’s Day, I would like to encourage all of us to become the role model or parent that we are called to become by growing spiritually as individuals, serving as examples to the people around us, and to look to the best example of all, our good, good Father in heaven.

To live in this world of evil, sin and temptation, we need all the protection and help we can get. The Bible says we need the whole armor of God. The Spiritual warfare that we face day in and day out can wear down our defenses. Spiritual strength and courage are needed for our spiritual warfare and suffering.

If we have eyes to see it, God has a way of “showing up” in our lives. Scripture refers to such moments as “grace,” because they reveal to us God’s goodness and kindness–his desire to “save” us. But what do we do with grace? Pointing to the “appearing” of God’s grace in Crete, Paul tells Titus that grace is a trainer. Grace is God’s way of inviting us to “train” with him, to become more fully fitted to his purposes by becoming more uniquely his. This message will explore what that “training” looks like in our day to day experience of walking with God.

In Ephesians, the Apostle Paul instructs the Brethren (the Greek audience to be exact) about the need to be different and separate from their past behaviors, and manner of life. Paul’s basis for instructing the brethren, is derived from the fact that in Christ Jesus, they had received the very nature and Spirit of Jesus. And this nature (the New Man) is opposed to their former way of living.

One of the glorious aspects of our Christian journey is that God has not simply sent us out into the world, but He also walks with us and invites us to participate in His own nature. Try to think about that for just a moment: The infinite, holy and righteous God of all creation calls you to participate in His nature!

In Eph.6:1-3, the Apostle Paul makes it clear that children have a responsibility before God and that keeping the commandments has definite benefits for them to anticipate receiving. One of the benefits mentioned is the prospect of long life which also contains an implication of prosperity.
