  • Goodfellas as a Morality Play w/ Stefan Gill - #003

This week, Austin filmmaker and comedian Stefan Gill joins to talk Martin Scorsese's pulsing opera of toxic masculinity Goodfellas. Stefan talks about his personal relationship with masculinity and explores how some movies, while extremely entertaining, are not meant to be emulated. Perhaps some men have a tendency to take away destructive and self-destructive lessons from movies in general, and here Stefan breaks it down for us in the way only a hardcore fan and well rounded cinephile can.

  • The Complicated Masculinity of Pro Wrestling w/ Roy Lazorwitz - #002

On episode #2, Roy Lazorwitz talks professional wrestling and masculinity and blows Lane's mind with harrowing tales of the highest highs and lowest lows on the spectrum of masculinity. From extreme examples of what NOT to do (self-destruction, addiction, misogyny) to some of the greatest examples of what healthy masculinity looks like (self-sacrifice, teamwork, inclusivity), Roy tells one captivating story after another throughout our interview and even talks about his own personal journey with masculinity and sexuality. Even if you don't care about wrestling, Roy provides a fascinating exploration into an art form that is always evolving and reflecting the world we live in. And if you DO love wrestling, then you will definitely appreciate the deep cuts of Roy's encyclopedic knowledge. Bonus points if you love New Jersey! • The Beatles and Masculinity w/ David Howe - #001

In this first episode, my guest David Howe (Super Switch Headz podcast) talks The Beatles and masculinity and does so with a dare-I-say unmatched level of expertise on the Fab Four including which one had the biggest dong and which one had the most mommy issues. David explores the depths not just of The Beatles' lyrics but also their lives, their childhoods, their greatest moments and also their darkest moments (John's violence). David and Lane celebrate the many great lessons and takeaways from the Beatles' music but they also dig into the role of anger in masculinity and how damaging it can be to oneself and others. David also highlights the importance of "doing the work" and helps to define it as apologizing for one's mistakes, taking real accountability, healing the wounds you've caused, and making the hard changes within one's self. This episode was a great tone-setter for what I hope this podcast is and can be. David wasn't only the perfect choice for my first guest, but he is also the producer of the Certified Good Boy Podcast! Yup, David is the man responsible for making every episode of the pod sound good and look good. Thanks, David!
