Just like when people get married, they marry their spouse but marry into their spouses wider family, so too when believers place their faith in Jesus, they are joined not only to him but also to his people, the Church. Jesus said that the whole of the Old Testament, (the Law, the Prophets, and the Writings as they were often described) could be summarised in one sentence "Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you" (Matthew 7:12, NLT). In the Old Testament Micah said something very similar; "He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?" The resurrection is God's proof that there is a judgment day and that Jesus will be the one to judge everyone, according to the Apostle Paul in Acts 17:31. The resurrection also matters because through Jesus' death and resurrection, all who trust in him die to their old life of sin and are renewed inwardly by the power of the Holy Spirit to begin walking in holiness. We might not feel like the resurrection is important, but it is a fact that not only proves that we will have to stand before God one day, but it also shows us that new life can be found in Christ, simply by committing our lives to him, in repentance and faith. Jesus suffered on the cross, to pay the penalty for sin, to redeem all who trust in him, so that we don't have to endure the eternal punishment our sin deserves in Hell forever. He said "It is finished!" The atonement is complete. We just have to receive mercy from God as a gift, by faith, by trust, with thanks, with a repentant heart. Suffering is a reality for all people in this fallen world. But those who have trusted in Jesus can look forward to a world where there is no more suffering or sorrow or pain. Yet, in the meantime, many believers are marginalised, discriminated against, and even persecuted, especially in other parts of the world. Suffering for the name of Christ, and suffering as we take up our cross daily and follow Jesus, is a reality that only believers experience. Such suffering is evidence of our salvation in Christ alone, and therefore something that can bring joy even through difficulty.

God's love is greater than any love we might have for others. He loved those who trust in Jesus when they were at their worst, so he will certainly continue to love them no matter what.

Believers' citizenship is above all else in heaven. During times of political crisis, believers can have peace and joy in the Lord, knowing that their future is secure. Jesus has overcome the world, and nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus. Some Christians are like sugar, always sweet and would never say a critical word when one is needed. Others are like vinegar, always hard to swallow what they say because they are always caustic. But Paul encourages us to be like salt, speaking what the truth in love. Living wisely means living in a godly way. This is only possible by placing our faith in Christ.
