The Prodigal Son turned from his wild living back to a restored relationship with his father. His older brother, however, was self-righteous, judgmental, selfish, and didn't have a proper relationship with his Father. The story Jesus told was cut short, with the obvious application being to the Pharisees, and by extension any of us, who think they have a good relationship with God but don't.

We cannot properly understand God, or our relationship to him, unless we get a good good understanding of him as creator and us as his created beings. Only then do we see our need to obey him, our sin, and his salvation through Jesus Christ in its proper light.

Many people use the word 'God'. But they don't all understand what God says of himself from God's Word, the Bible. The God of the Bible is so different to gods of other religions, or gods of our own imagination. Only this God is perfectly just, gracious, merciful, and loving.

Although people don't often understand or respond to the gospel of God's grace through faith alone in Jesus Christ the first few times they hear it, those who do find peace, joy, and eternal life.

Children's ministry should have a prime place in church.

Jesus also wants adults to place their faith in him, since a trusting faith is what God requires.

If we think from a worldly point of view, there are few good reasons to treat others with justice and kindness. All the good reasons, and the best reasons, come from having a godly perspective, for both unbelievers as well as believers.
