We look at nativity scenes, but do we really see God? We cannot see him directly, because of our moral flaws/sin, although we can see something of his nature and ways in creation and our minds/conscience. Yet, if we trust in Jesus Christ alone, we can know him now in a deep spiritual way by the indwelling Holy Spirit, as well as know his presence in the age to come more directly when God's presence will be with us. We all have wants and desires.

But so often they are unfulfilled. How can we have our heart's desires fulfilled? How can we have our plans come about? The key is to set our hearts on the things of the Lord, and on the Lord God himself, and then our hearts will desire godly things, and we will have our heart's desires fulfilled either sooner or later.
