What happened? When did things go wrong? CGI has come such a long way but at some point Hollywood studios decided to replace practical effects with sketchy CGI on most major films. Superhero movies are the biggest offenders here. So many fake backgrounds and rushed CGI scenes leave the audience feeling disconnected from what they are watching. The best films blend both computer generated imagery with practical effects. That has been lost the last few years.
