Domestic violence in the desi community has always been a topic people tip toe'd around. But I decided to let you in one some of my load in regards to my past.
Because truth be told.. many of us share this burden together so why continue to suffer silently ?
You can go to the gym, take your vitamins and drink plenty of water, but if you don't deal with the ish going on in your head you are still going to be unhealthy. Lets chat about desi influences that may have caused some trauma, but more importantly a couple ways we can try to fix it.
Lets get to some light chatting about some deep thoughts. First full episode- here we go. Who enjoys getting cheated on? I sure don't, then why do us desis find ourselves doing it everyday?
Mauri is a young first generation American Bangladeshi. Having moved from Jackson Heights, NY to Jersey City, NJ and now a small town in Connecticut she has got alot to say.
Growing up as a "desi" we've learned to be loud and proud of our culture but to be quiet about the not so colorful subjects in our society. I want to challenge the status quo and spark conversations so that it not only raises awareness, but promotes action. So grab your cup of chai and join me while I spill the chai on being the " brown sheep" of the desi society and you may just see- that you are not alone but most importantly you too can raise your voice.
Warning: Mauri may use a filter while making her chai, but its #nofilter when it comes to spilling it.
