Members of Congress clearly believe that the rules that govern the financial lives of ordinary people don't apply to them. In this week's Chairman's Report, AFFT president Steve Hayes documents yet another instance that proves that Congress and the Federal government not only live by their own rules, but they have no idea how changes in the tax law affect their spending. The solution is to make the true cost of government clear to everyone by passing the FAIRtax.

It has just recently come to light that over a year ago, the IRS purposely destroyed over 30 million paper filed return documents because they couldn't process them. Clearly, the IRS is not capable of doing the job it's supposed to be doing, and pouring more money into it isn't going to fix the problem. There's only one solution. Abolish the IRS by replacing the income tax with the FAIRtax.

There are multiple reasons why we have a supply chain crisis in the United States, but the simple reason is that for the most part, the products we want and the components that go into them are manufactured overseas. Why? Because our insane income/payroll tax system has driven American manufacturing offshore. We'd have a much smaller supply chain problem if more things were manufactured in the United States. And we'd have much more American manufacturing if we would pass the FAIRtax.

Of course, that didn't stop them from being attacked and ridiculed by many pundits of the day. While direct bribery of a Member of Congress is illegal, there is a convenient back door way for Members of Congress to receive a "reward for services" that is perfectly legal. What does cancel culture have to do with the FAIRtax? Everything. In a nutshell, cancel culture is the attempt to silence someone who has a different opinion than you. Do you think that exempting groceries from the state sales tax makes that tax more progressive? Think again. A recent study for the Tax Foundation found that exempting groceries from the sales tax results in higher rates for other goods. The study further found that low-income families would be better off if groceries were taxed, and the tax rate was reduced commensurately on other goods. So far, the Tax Foundation has not endorsed the FAIRtax, but it looks like they're slowly recognizing the economic truth that sales taxes are better than income taxes.

It should come as no surprise that people are frustrated with the income tax and don't really trust it to be fair and honest. Some numbers from a recent Harris Poll on taxation bear that out. Still, the people we elect to act in our best interests continue to prop up the current income tax system. Why? Could it be that they're really looking out for themselves rather than us? We need to take back control of our country and demand the FAIRtax.
