On this week’s show the big interview is with my colleague and friend David Steele. He has been a professional sports journalist for more than 35 years, written for the Sporting News, AOL, the Baltimore Sun, the San Francisco Chronicle, and Newsday, and has contributed to ESPN’s The Undefeated, USA Today, and the NAACP’s the Crisis Magazine. He joins me to talk about his latest book It Was Always a Choice, a closely observed, well-argued examination of how athletes have used their fame to advance civil rights. He lends a critical eye to the moment we’re having in sports right now as he examines the choices athletes have had to either pick up the baton of activism or not.

Later in the show we’ll look at what’s happening with the Houston Texans, their 1-9-1 record and the media’s role in shaping a narrative that goes beyond the field. There is enough blame to go around at Houston’s NFL franchise, and the root of the problem may just be what ownership has longed for by coveting the New England Patriots way of doing business. We’ll talk about it. You’ll also hear from Texans coach Lovie Smith as the team prepares to host former Texans QB Deshaun Watson and the Cleveland Browns this weekend at NRG Stadium.

In the NBA, the Houston Rockets have won two games in a row for the first time this season and are in Denver for a 2-games with the Broncos.

In baseball, the Houston Astros clinched the best record in the American League, have three more games before the regular season ends, and their first playoff game is Tuesday, October 11th. Hear from manager Dusty Baker on his plan for the rest of the regular season as he gets his team ready to make a run for the championship… again!

On this week’s show Kim talks about the Houston Astros clinching their 5th AL West title in six years. The Astros are heading to postseason for the sixth straight season and have the best record in the American League. We’ll talk about the Astros chances of advancing in October.

In football, the Houston Texans are 0-1-1 after losing to the Broncos in Denver Sunday afternoon. Jonathan Alexander, the Houston Chronicle’s NFL Reporter, joins the show live to talk all things Texans and the NFL. We’ll talk about upsets, surprises and what’s ahead.

On this week’s show it’s ‘go time’ for NFL teams, Serena Williams and more. NFL teams must trim their rosters to 53 by 3pm CST today and Williams is playing in her final professional tennis tournament.

We’ll start with Williams, and yes, she is the G.O.A.T.! For those who don’t know… that stands for greatest of all time. Monday night, the US Open honored Serena before and after her first-round match. More on this on today’s show.

Texans head coach Lovie Smith talks about wrapping up preseason and the pending roster cuts later today. Hear what Coach Smith says about the Texans roster and his team as they prepare to kick of their regular season in two weeks.

It’s almost September so that means MLB teams are making their runs toward post-season… and that includes the Houston Astros. The Astros have the best record in the American League with an 82-47 record with games left to play. Yordan Alvarez missed Sunday’s win over the Orioles with a hand injury and Ace Justin Verlander left after three innings with tightness in his calf. The team is also without Aledmys Diaz. Is it time to panic? We’ll talk about it.

Perhaps the biggest story over the weekend was Duke volleyball player Rachel Richardson’s being subjected to racial spurs during a match against Brigham Young University and how officials handled the issue… or did they?

On this week’s show it’s all about football, the NFL’s opening weekend, NCAAF highlights and upsets, the Astros push towards post-season and more.

We’ll start with the Houston Texans and the first ever tie in their season opener with the Indianapolis Colts. In college football it was rough weekend for local area teams, except for Rice University. We’ll talk about my alma mater, Texas A&M’s home loss to Appalachian St. and Notre Dame’s home loss to Marshall.

In baseball, the Houston Astros have a six-game lead over the New York Yankees for the best record in the American league and have won 7 of their last 10 games. Tonight, they’re in Detroit to take on the Tigers.

On this week's show, my special guest is Texas Southern University's Head Men's Basketball Coach, Johnny Jones. Jones has had success at PWI's as well as at an HBCU - TSU. We'll talk about his success and what we can expect from the Tigers this fall.

it's officially football season. The NCAA kicked off college football games over the holiday weekend and the 2022 NFL season kicks of Thursday night. We'll talk about some of the great games from the weekend including the Labor Day Classic, Florida State's chaotic win over LSU and of course my Aggies!

The Texans open at home against their AFC-South rival the Colts. Hear from head coach Lovie Smith, defensive lineman Johnathan Greenard, and safety Jonathan Owens. It's go time!

If you haven't checked out any of the US Open, you still have time. Serena Williams lost a hard fought 3-set match in the third-round Friday night, and match it was. However, 18-year-old Coco Gauff has advanced the quarterfinals along with another American to keep your eyes on, Frances Tiafoe!

Of course, if it's September, the Houston Astros are playing for a pennant. The Stros introduced another pitching prospect to the majors last night when Hunter Brown pitched a 3-hit shutout through six innings. Brown lived up to the hype in his major league debut as the Astros beat the Rangers 1-0 to improve to 87-48, 11 games better than Seattle in the AL-West and hold a 6-game leaver over the Yankees for best record in the American League.
