In this episode of Challenging the Norm, Lindsey takes the lead as she and Paul dive into the heart of business: sales. Lindsey kicks things off bluntly: “If we don’t sell, we don’t have a business.” Paul adds, “If you have a business, you are a salesperson.”
Even with a website that sells, the owner still needs to actively talk about their business.
Before diving deeper, they tackle common phrases like “I don’t like selling” and why so many business owners avoid it.
Here’s what you can expect from this episode:
✅ Why women sometimes find selling harder — and how to overcome it.
✅ The importance and benefits of a solid sales process.
✅ How a CRM can boost conversions and make selling easier.
✅ The emotional side of sales and the hidden dangers of discounting.
✅ Why strong offers give you confidence in selling.
✅ How women thrive in sales once they find their confidence.
Paul and Lindsey share practical examples of adding value to your offers, and Paul emphasises — more than once — why sticking to the process is key.
Lindsey also reflects on gender bias in business and their shared vision for a more equitable world.

Do a Google search, and you will most likely come up with a definition similar to the one below.
“A pipeline shows you who you’re talking to, where they’re up to, and what’s likely to turn into a sale. It helps you keep track of conversations, opportunities, and sales.”
Sounds simple, but every business is different, and that is where some of the challenges arise because there is no one-size-fits-all.
In this episode, Paul and Lindsey go all in practical with a conversation about pipelines in business, what they are and aren’t, and how people see pipelines. They
explore the challenges, tools and what a pipeline is to them.
Here’s what you can expect from this episode.:
✅ What a pipeline is and isn’t.
✅ Why pipelines don’t get the attention they deserve
✅ The different ways people can enter your pipeline
✅ Lindsey describes her pipeline, how it focuses on building a relationship
✅ The difference between pipelines and funnels
✅ They get to the heart of what a pipeline is.
This is an episode not to be missed. It is a journey of exploration, packed with ideas and tips, and no matter your business type, will have you thinking about your pipeline differently.

In this episode, Paul and Lindsey set the tone for the year ahead, with reminders for business and life, but most importantly, wherever you are in your journey, it's okay.
Paul talks about the cultural fixation we have on New Years Day and the pressure placed on that date because it marks the start of a new year. They explore why so
often ‘resolutions’ focus on health and why Lindsey has eaten her weight in cheese over the Christmas holidays.
Lindsey and Paul hope this episode sets the stage for the year ahead, providing insights
and tips to help you move forward in business and life.
Here’s what you can expect from this episode:
✅ You get to choose where your new beginning is in business and life.
✅ Importance of mindset, and how to protect it, no surprise there!
✅ How to break down big goals, and yes, we are back to the first step
✅ Sacrifice and what you are willing to sacrifice in business and life.
✅ Consistency ... what that means and how to maintain it.
Toward the end, Lindsey gets animated about going again, exploring with curiosity, being okay with something not working out, and a potential client saying now. Seeing life as the game that it is and finding your way of playing it.

#ChallengingTheNorm
In this episode of Challenging the Norm, Lindsey and Paul dive into the 26th
November budget. Not as economists (because they’re definitely not!) but as two business owners trying to make sense of why “solutions” were kicked into the future.
They start with the first and perhaps most significant lesson in the budget: why waiting is dangerous — in life, in business. Whether you’re running a business, leading a team, or navigating everyday life, delaying action can quietly hold you back far more than you realise.
Expect laughter, a little disbelief, and, as always, practical insight as Lindsey and Paul explore:
✅ Why waiting rarely solves anything — in business or in life
✅ Paul’s “failure loop” and how it shows up in everyday decisions
✅ Mindset, resilience, and how to shift perspective when you’re stuck
✅ The role of media and why filtering the noise is essential
✅ The importance of staying in your lane, even when everything around you feels chaotic
And in true one-take style, Lindsey does disappear for a moment to answer the door — because real life doesn’t stop just because you’re recording a podcast.
Lindsey's disappearance aside, this is a look at the budget from a different perspective, without the scare, and instead two ‘normal’ people staying in their lane.

Finally, a topic where Paul and Lindsey are poles apart.
In this episode, Paul admits he doesn’t always get around to this ‘stuff’... stuff being planning. He is honest and holds his hands up.
Lindsey, on the other hand, has become more organised over the years. Is that because she is a woman with two teenagers and has built a business around the family? Or did she realise the power of planning in the nick of time.
By moving away from an ad-hoc, hope-for-the-best approach, Lindsey has more time to spend away from the business. Perhaps more importantly, she now makes progress.
This episode is a juicy one.
Although, while listening back and writing these show notes, Lindsey thinks she sounds like she was in the toilet… which we promise she wasn’t. But perhaps she didn’t turn her Snowball on! Rookie error!! 😆.
Anyway, here’s what you can expect:
✅ The challenges facing business owners who love the “business stuff” but sometimes struggle to get organised.
✅ Finding your tipping point for outsourcing and why not doing so could hold your business back.
✅ How mindset and spotting gaps in your processes can move your business forward.
✅ Lindsey’s excitement for planning — yes, you’ll hear her geek out!
✅ Paul shares his approach to reframing and using 90-day plans to stay on track.
✅ Meaning that Lindsey and Paul, of course, dive into why 90-day planning works and how it can help you make better business decisions.
Finally, touching on the risks every solopreneur or business owner faces if planning is neglected — and how thinking ahead protects your business.

With everything you know today, if you were twenty, would you start your
business in the same way?
In this episode of Challenging the Norm, Lindsey asks Paul the question above - and
there is a reason for it - but first, Paul tries to answer Lindsey’s question. And yes,
hindsight is a wonderful thing, and starting a business in your twenties is different
from starting in your forties, which is when Lindsey got started with two toddlers in
the house, as did Paul with four children!
In answering, Paul touches on hindsight, energy needed and how risk is different
depending on your age.
So, having set the scene here is what you can expect:
✅ How the world is different today, and how the lens we look through matters.
✅ Lindsey shares why you shouldn’t wait and tomorrows are not guaranteed.
✅ Yes, you can start a business at any age, but boundaries matter.
✅ Paul shares his formula for deciding if your business idea will work for you.
✅ Lindsey and Paul jumped into boundaries again later in this episode!
✅ The power of reflection and review, and why it shouldn’t be overlooked.
Throughout this episode, we allude to and call out the myth that you have to hustle,
get up at 5 am and can only start a business when you are ready. We also talk about
time freedom, and how that doesn’t happen overnight – and if you are going after a
figure business and only have a limited number of hours, it might take longer.
Many times, during this conversation, Paul brings us back to his equation, proving its
power. And towards the end, Paul threw marketing into the equation, so keep
watching and listening to the end.
