Drew Stutts just finished his second season has the head coach of the Lions where he has back-to-back years finishing in the top half of conference after being picked 11 out 12 both years, back-to-back years top 5 in 3s made per game and top 15 in overall 3-pt percentage, the NAIA record for 2020 with 26 3s made in a game, top three in scoring in AMC and Mid-South, 82 ppg, three All-Americans, one Freshman of the Year and six All-Conference players. Overall GPA in year 1 was 3.29 placing eight on All-Academic team, and nine student-athletes on the All-Academic team in year two, which ranked third out of 12 teams in the Mid-South.

Stutts has recruited at a high level since coming on as head coach, bringing in two top-50 players in Tennessee for this next recruiting class, as well as the 2020 Mr. Basketball and No. 38 recruit in Tennessee in 2020. He has signed top transfers, including Bryan Battle, who was a Third Team All-American at FHU and is currently playing professionally in Europe.

In his first season, Stutts and the Lions won more games than the previous two years combined. They were top five in the nation in 3-pointers made per game (10.89) and second in the AMC in scoring, averaging 82.2 points per game. In the second game of the season against Crowley's Ridge, the Lions knocked down an FHU single-game record 22 3-pointers.

The Lions also added two guys to the First-Team All-AMC for the first time since the 2015-16 season in Bryan Battle and Kortland Martin. Freshman Konstantin Dotsenko was named the Freshman of the Year and was also added to the Second-Team All-AMC under Stutts's leadership.

Before returning to Freed-Hardeman, Stutts was the head coach at Chester County, where he led the program to a 19-10 record and its first appearance in the Region Semifinals since 2004. The Eagles averaged 73 points-per-game in his one year at the helm, which was in the top 10 in the state of Tennessee for scoring average.

Stutts is a native of Florence, Alabama, where he played high school basketball at Mars Hill Bible School. He played collegiately at Northwest Shoals Community College before transferring to the University of North Alabama where he played basketball and earned his degree in Physical Education in 2011.

During his playing career, he served as the assistant coach at Mars Hill, where he helped lead the team to a 104-28 overall record and two Final Four appearances.

From 2011 to 2014, Stutts was the athletic director and head basketball coach at Corner School in Birmingham, Alabama, followed by being the junior varsity head coach and varsity assistant coach at Hewitt Trussville High School from 2014 to 2017, just before coming to Freed-Hardeman.

His wife Amanda is a nursing clinical instructor at Freed-Hardeman, and they have two sons, Roman (6) and Deacon (4), and a daughter, Parker, who was just born this year.

Coach Gruse, from St. Albans WV, moved to SW Virginia in 2015.  It didn’t take him long to become a staple in the community.  A graduate of Concord College and a three year letterman in baseball, Coach Gruse has followed his passion for sports throughout his professional career.  For twenty plus years, coach has worked at the collegiate level and high school level as a basketball and baseball coach.  He has coached NBA, NFL and MLB players alike.  Coach has been the recipient of many accolades during his coaching career to include, but not limited to: Dogwood District Coach of the Year, River Ridge District Coach of the Year, and Virginia High School League Coach of the Year.

Today, Coach Gruse is the head basketball coach for Cave Spring High School, where he most recently won the VHSL state championship and VHSL Coach of the Year.  In addition, Coach Gruse is the Executive Director of Knights Basketball Academy, where he oversees all of KBA programs and teams.

He also organized and run a spring boys AAU program for 21 years up until he took over the boys program two years ago.

Brian T. McCormick, PhD is a professional basketball coach, consultant, and clinician. McCormick has coached professionally in Denmark, Ireland, and Sweden, taking a team to the finals in Denmark's 1st Division and being selected to coach in Sweden's Damligan All-Star Game. He has coached CYO, AAU, high school, junior college, and college basketball in the western United States, and worked as a strength and conditioning coach for two junior-college basketball programs. McCormick has directed clinics in Canada, China, Greece, Ghana, India, Macedonia, Trinidad & Tobago, and throughout the United States, and spoken at coaching, strength & conditioning, and sports psychology conferences in the United States and Canada. McCormick completed his PhD in Exercise and Sports Science at the University of Utah, and has had peer-reviewed papers published in the International Journal of Exercise Science, International Journal of Sports Science and Coaching, and Strength & Conditioning Journal

Coach Kevin Furtado is the new head girls basketball coach at Walnut Grove High school in Loganville, GA. Coach Kevin Furtado is a 30 year veteran basketball coach and Physical education teacher. He is finishing his 5th year at Lake Oconee Academy in Greensboro, GA. He has built LOA into one of the premiere girls basketball programs in the GHSA A public school classification. He started the program in 2016 in its first year of existence for the program. They gradually got better as they went from 3 wins in his first year to a 21 win season and to the 2nd round of the state tournament last season. This season we won our Region Championship and finished the season at 25-1, losing in the Elite 8.  He started his coaching career in 1990 at Amelia Academy in Amelia, Virginia as Athletic Director, Head Girls and Boys Basketball coach and head softball coach. He has amassed over 460 career wins and 290 losses in both the GISA and GHSA school system leagues. His teams have been to 4 GISA final fours in girls basketball, 4 Region championships in GISA . He is known for his ability to take struggling programs and build them into competitive winning programs. In 1997, he took over a struggling LaGrange Academy Girls Basketball team who had 4 wins in the previous season, to a final 4 appearance in 1998 at Georgia college in Milledgeville, GA. He is very proud of his current assistant coach Chobi Young who played for him in 2012 at Georgia Military college in Milledgeville is now his current assistant coach. In addition, one of his former players Coach Julie Brooker is the current Girls softball coach at LOA. He feels that the impact he had on shaping the lives of his former players is more important than the wins. "Its how they think about you 20 years down the road is the true sign of your coaching" says Coach Furtado.
