Coach Ed Fritz is in his seventeenth year as the head boys' basketball coach of the Blue Valley Northwest Huskies in Overland Park, KS.  During his 16-year tenure, the basketball program has appeared in eleven Kansas 6A state tournaments, seven state championship games, and won four state titles (including back to back titles in both 2013 & 2014 and 2017 & 2018).  The 2012-2013 state championship team went 25-0; including a win over DeLaSalle High School in Minnesota (2013 3A State Champs).  In 2012-2013, Northwest finished 19th in the USA Today’s poll and 10th in MaxPreps poll.

During the 2017-2018 basketball season, Coach Fritz eclipsed the 600 win total.  He is now 614-271 all-time, including a 180-41 record over the last nine years.  He was selected Kansas All-Classes Coach of the Year and Kansas 6A Coach of the Year in 2018.  This was the second time he won the Kansas Coach of the Year award.  In 2012, Coach Fritz received the “Paul Lambert” Award recognizing the best coach in the Kansas City area.  Coach Fritz was inducted into the Greater Kansas City Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2017.  In 2015, Coach Fritz was inducted into Williamsville North’s Hall of Fame (Buffalo, NY) for his outstanding high school career.

Prior to taking the job at Blue Valley Northwest, Coach Fritz was the head coach at Center High School for fifteen years.  He has been a head college coach at Baker University and an assistant at the University of Nebraska-Kearney.  Coach Fritz is highly involved in youth basketball running numerous tournaments, leagues and camps.  He coached a seventh grade youth team which has captured two USSSA national titles and many other awards.  Ed’s wife, Ann, is the head girls basketball coach at Blue Valley North High School.

Blue Valley Northwest has won last 3 state titles have been in the title 8 out of last 10 years have 83 % of games. Have numerous kids playing D1 currently. Abeline Christian, Tulsa, Kansas, Missouri, Georgia, Illinois Chicago. Also had two kids lead Loyola Chicago to NCAA final. Clayton Custer Mid Major POY and Ben Richardson Missouri Valley Defensive POY.  Lucky to coach East team in McDonald’s game last year 2019. Sam Hale is a certified Mental Game Coach and licensed human resources professional with more than three decades of experience coaching and counseling employees, managers, and executives in corporate America.  Sam has also spent the last 20+ years in a variety of coaching roles in youth sports, as his four kids explored the athletic universe by playing a multitude of sports.  He and his wife Kristen started LAUNCH Peak Performance when they noticed a lack of resources for athletes that were either struggling with the mental aspect of their game or were seeking to get a competitive advantage over there competition, both of which they experienced with their own son as he navigated middle school, high school, and AAU basketball on his way to earning a scholarship to play collegiately.

Our family has been around athletics our entire life. My dad was an AD and principal for 25 years. He presided over 12 state championships and is in the Hall of Fame for football. My wife, my self and both brothers played in State Championships. The first basketball camp I went to as a 12 year old was coached by Dick Bennett (at the time head boys coach at Eau Claire Memorial HS)

In my early 20’s I coached freshman girls in the Cloverbelt  Conference at Fall Creek. I also scouted for Hall of Fame Coach Arnie Skrukrud as they won multiple state titles. Went College at UW Eau Claire, where I watched some of the best D3 College basketball coached by Dick Bennett, Ken Anderson and Bo Ryan.

Next was Bloomer High School (Heart of the North Conference) where I coached lower levels.

I left there and went to Chippewa Falls (Big Rivers) where Jeff Olson and I rebuilt program and started their youth program (Cardinal Flight). They are currently the dominant D1 program in our area now.

I went back to Bloomer and Coached both my lower daughter’s lower level teams then the head varsity jobs in Girls Golf, Boys Golf and Girls basketball.  I started their youth program (Momentum Basketball) when I was there.

These last 4 years my daughter played 3 sports at the varsity level and I wanted to watch and not miss anything,

I currently spend time with (2) teams (coached both this summer). Arcadia girls (Coulee Conference) and Thorp boys (Western Cloverbelt).

Like most coaches in the state especially those on and around my age, we are heavily influenced by Dick Bennett and Bo Ryan. Coach Divilbiss are linked by a passion for basketball and love for the Buzz Defense.

I am currently working on a parent handbook surrounding athletics. My plan is to speak to parents starting next fall. Much will be based on my experience as a coach but also plenty on my path as a parent.

Based on what transpired in a few short moments in early 2006, Coach Jim Johnson is now an authority on the subject of realizing your dreams. In his many public-speaking appearances, the Rochester, New York resident relates his role in a basketball game that got Hollywood calling. He also emphasizes the importance of teamwork and sportsmanship, delivering his talks with a heartfelt style that has brought audiences to their feet.

Coach Johnson has developed winning high-school basketball teams for 30 years, taking over three losing varsity programs and turning them into winners in short periods of time. Of his 428 career victories, one in particular will surely never be duplicated.

On Feb. 15, 2006, Coach Johnson made the kindhearted gesture of inserting his autistic manager, Jason McElwain, now known to the world as J-Mac into Greece Athena High School’s final home game, which the Trojans won 79-43. J-Mac scored 20 points in just over four minutes, including six three-point baskets, to become an instant national celebrity. Coach Johnson, also, was featured in major news outlets around the country.

To make the Hollywood ending complete, Greece Athena captured the first Section V title of Coach Johnson’s career a few weeks later.

Currently Coach Mike Divilbiss is the Athletic Director at Lakeland High School in North Idaho.  He coached Collegiate women's basketball for 30 years.  21 years as a head coach at Lewis Clark State and  the University of Idaho.  Associate Head coach at Wisconsin Green Bay and the University of Illinois.  12 of the 30 teams he coached played in National Championships. He has developed All Americans in programs that had never had any prior to or after his time at those schools.  His overall record is 558-305.  He has a tremendous family.  His wife Judy and him have been married for 34 years.  They have 2 wonderful children Zach and Chantel.  Zach and his wife Taz had their first baby 17 months ago.  Zoey is a light for all of us.

Divilbiss decided to make basketball his life's passion while growing up in Chicago's northwest suburb of West Dundee after watching Bobby Knight coach a game for Indiana University in 1972, according to a 2004 Moscow-Pullman (Idaho) Daily News profile.

He played basketball at Winona State University in Minnesota and graduated in 1981 with a degree in physical education and then was an assistant coach at Eastern Washington University, where he earned his masters. He landed his first head coaching job in 1987 at Lewis-Clark State College in Idaho, and over the next 14 years built the program into an NAIA powerhouse.
