In this episode, Channa Channa Channa talks to Sri Lankan R&B/Hip Hop Artist, Producer Chinthy.  Chinthy is also from the same hometown as Channa and he met Chinthy for the first time in the early 2000s.  

Chinthy wanted to become a singer when he first heard Billy Jean of Michael Jackson. He started listening to Hip hop with NWA.   Chinthy formed his crew I.R.C in Australia later on continued in Sri Lanka.  

Chinthy released his debut album titled 'Rising from the East' (Sokare), which became a hit in Sri Lanka and became a huge influence for upcoming Sri Lankan hip hop artists. 

Chinthy talks about his childhood, his favourite music, starting his first crew I.R.C, recording his first album, performing for the first time, collaborations with Sri Lankan and foreign artists, stories behind his famous music videos.   Chinthy also talks about his career as a successful producer which he works with many international artists.

In this episode, Channa Channa Channa talks to Mikael “Bloodcurse” Loh guitarist, vocalist of Singaporean Blackened Death Metal band Ilemauzar and guitarist of another Singaporean Black metal band Sprengkopf. Channa met Mikael in early 2019 when he watched Ilemauzar and Sprengkoph in Singapore.  

Mikael is also the Co-Founder of Vent Box Productions who is responsible for many metal gigs in South East Asia.  Mikael was also behind Revision Live Entertainment which brought Behemoth to Singapore in 2013. 

Mikael talks about his childhood, early music, discovering Metal, Singapore metal scene back then and now, joining Ilemauzar, recording their debut album, touring in neighbouring countries, the story behind forming Sprengkopf.

Mikael also talks about the efforts behind bringing Behemoth to Singapore and other bands. He appreciates the support from the metalheads which is the reason he keeps bringing metal bands to SEA.

In this episode, Channa Channa Channa talks to members of Sri Lankan Glam Metal band Silence of Loud.  Channa discovered SOL via Facebook.  Channa loved their latest single “Pain and Scream” which was in released in early 2020.  

SOL consist of Sachithra Jayawickrama (Guitar), Ashen Sandaru (Vocals), Kavin Harshana (Guitar), Sajith Sri (Bass) and Kaveesha Karunarathne (Drums) hailing from Kandy was formed in 2018. 

SOL talks about their childhood, influences, favourite music, how they met, forming SOL, their first gig, their first single, their latest single and their upcoming plans.  They also talk about how they keep motivated during the pandemic as a band.  

They are looking forward to performing live after the pandemic and releasing new songs.

In this episode, Channa Channa Channa talks to Kiko “Catman” Montecillo keyboardist, guitarist, bassist and current member of Pinoy rock band Mojofly. Channa met Kiko a few years ago and watch him perform many times. 

Kiko started playing the piano from a young age.  Played in several school bands. Moved to LA in the early 90s and performed with many bands. This is where he started playing with Cat Mask which gave him the moniker “Catman”.    

Shortly after his return to the Philippines in 2011, he was invited to join the solo band of Lougee Basabas and which she eventually decided to bring back Mojofly and Kiko settled to play Keytar.   

Kiko also played with several other bands including The Satanic Cupcakes, Mariang Palad and all Keytar band RONIN.  Kiko also plays Solo regularly around Metro and also with Norby David.

In this episode, Channa Channa Channa talks to Jeric Emmanuel, Lakshika Seneviratne, and Rasanjana Suchitra, members of Genetic Fallacy Heavy Metal band from Negombo.  Channa discovered Genetic Fallacy via Facebook. 

Genetic Fallacy started with friends meeting at local metal gigs since 2016 and finally taking the steps to form the band in 2019.  Influenced by bands like Lamb of God, Amon Amarth, Pantera they have created their own unique style incorporating Melodic and Groove Metal with Sri Lankan traditional Thovil music.  

Jeric, Lakshika and Rasanjana talk about how they met each other, forming the band, their influences, their early performances, lineup changes, writing songs in Sinhalese, Metal scene in Negombo, Support from fans.  Genetic Fallacy looking forward to performing live again and hopes to release songs this year.

In this episode, Channa Channa Channa talks to members of Ace of Pentacles, Sri Lankan All-female rock band. Channa discovered them via Facebook recently.   

Ace of Pentacles started as a duo with sisters Fiona Peiris and Iny Ramona Peiris, playing at famous pubs and clubs in Colombo.  Inspired by the bands like Dream Theater, System of A Down they always wanted to create an all-female full band and they were searching for members. 

Recently stars have been aligned they found Hiruni Fernando (guitars) and Maria Soysa (Drums) and with Iny on bass and Fiona on Vocals they are now ready to conquer the Sri Lankan rock scene.   

They talk about their childhood, early memories of music, their influences, Sri Lanka music scene and the support they get from fellow musicians.  They wish to inspire little girls to follow their dreams in music/arts.

In this episode, Channa Channa Channa talks to Santiago Dobles guitarist, songwriter, producer, a founding member of progressive metal band Aghora.  Channa discovered Aghora via Facebook.  Channa got connected with Santiago through mutual friend guitarist Jason Gobel.  

Santiago is the son of famous Venezuelan symphonic composer Gustav Dobles who encouraged and inspired Santiago to pursue music very early in life and played the guitar as a kid.  He studied in Berklee College of Music.  He formed Aghora in 1995 and recorded debut album in 1999.   

Santiago also collaborated with many artists and also contributed music for TV and Films. 

Santiago has also been training in Yoga and Martial arts for decades.  These have also inspired his music with Aghora.  Aghora released their last album “Entheogenic Frequencies” in 2019 and Santiago is currently working on the next album.

In this episode, Channa Channa Channa talks to Linus Klausenitzer the bassist of Obsidious Alkaloid and formally Obscura.  Channa has been a fan of Obscura and Linus for many years. 

Linus who raised in a musical background at home studied classical music and played piano and trumpet. He was introduced to metal while in school.  He started performing internationally in bands like Fall of Serenity and Noneuclid.  The album Metatheosis released by Noneuclid is considered a masterpiece.  

In 2011 Linus was invited to join Obscura and toured with the band in Europe, Asia and the Americas.  Linus wrote music for last two albums of Obscura which are fan favourites.  He also formed extreme metal band Alkaloid in 2014. Alkaloid is the only German band to perform in Egypt. 

In 2020 he left Obscura and formed Obsidious with former Obscura drummer Sebastian Lanser.   He is currently writing songs for the debut Obsidious album.

In this episode, Channa Channa Channa talks to Christo Peiris the well-known Producer Mixer and Engineer and the main man of OutCross from Longbeach California. Christo hails from Negombo, Sri Lanka as well.  Channa met Christo in the early 2000s in Negombo.  

Christo one of the pioneering producers of Sri Lankan worked with many artists in Sri Lanka.  Christo was one of the early recording engineers of Sri Lankan Hip Hop.  Christo moved to the states and started OutCross.  

Christo talks about his childhood, his dad’s influence,  his home studio, artists he worked with and he remembers working with Sri Lankan greats like Premasiri Kemadasa, Rohana Weerasinghe.  Christo also talks about moving to states, creating experimental music and releasing his first single.   Christo wishes to do collaborations with Sri Lankan artists in the near future.
