On part 2 of what was meant to be Episode 5, we get into the career trajectories of early 2000s rappers such as Grafh, Joe Budden, and Saigon. We then go into an interesting tangent about the intersection of video games and Hip-Hop, and just video games in general. We end talking about clowns and clown/mime mythology, Insane Clown Posse, Tech N9ne, clown school, and mimes in the Black Church. Interesting to say the least.

We recorded this about a month ago and it was supposed to be Episode 5, but the #FreddieGray incident happened so we had to address that. On this episode, we get into a wide range of topics, starting with our experiences with racism throughout the week, the best way to listen to music from headphones to speakers to cassette, vinyl, or mp3, sound quality in music, the greatest hype men in Hip-Hop, granola bars, Starbucks, oral history in music, and ways that the South has kept traditional Hip-Hip alive. On this episode, we get into the legacy of BET Uncut and it's rise as an important outlet for independent Hip-Hop pre-Internet. We then get into talking about all kinds of other artists and topics such as Bizzy Bone, AZ, Q-Tip, Mumblecore, ODB, Busta Rhymes, Saigon, Love and Hip-Hop, The Source, XXL, Gucci Mane, Big L, Dipset, Cam'Ron, Juelz Santana, Vado, A-Mafia and more. We also compare a line from Gucci Mane that may have (*gasp*) surpassed a similar line from Big L.

We also talk about rappers' health issues dealing with obesity and drug use, and other random Hip-Hop talk discussing many things including music videos, The Box, Xzibit, Tha Liks, Loud Records, Kool G Rap, Digable Planets, Alchemist, and Prodigy's discography.

This is a special episode, because after our last episode regarding Freddie Gray, things in our city have escalated to "state of emergency status". Artic recounts his story speaking with a looter/rioter in the emergency room, and from there we reflect on the protests and riots as a whole, growing up in Baltimore, Baltimore politics, the curfew and the National Guard coming in, experiences with racism and police, and once again we search for solutions.

We have enough content up now to participate in Throwback Thursdays (go us!), so for the first #TBT we bring back a segment from Episode 2 where Singod tells his story about seeing Bun B in an airport on his way back from Winnipeg, Manitoba. Bun B was quite agitated to say the least, yelling on the phone and then talking to his wife. It's always interesting seeing "celebs" as real people with their guard down without the glitz and glam, and it's always cool to go back to older episodes to see how far we've come on this podcasting journey, so check it out. Singod had a question to ask Bun, but out of respect for the Trill OG he didn't bother him, but hopefully we can get Bun B on the show for a conversation!

We had another more Hip-Hop based episode on deck, but we'll have to push that until next week. On this episode, recorded the day after the big Freddie Gray protests in Baltimore on the eve of Saturday 04/25/2015, we discuss the Freddie Gray incident, the protests after, and the history of Baltimore Police brutality and the cover ups. The conversation then takes a turn to more abstract but related topics of protests in general, making real social change, consciousness, the role of Black women in all of this, morality, the role of religious institutions, and ends with a powerful "rant" by Singodsuperior about the need for all humans to respect all other humans as human beings.

At the end, we try to lighten it up a little bit with some Hip-Hop talk about what would be on our protest mixtape.
