We made it, friends. We made it all the way through PAX East 2020, and oh, the sights we saw! John played Maneater, a game about being a terrifying shark that eats beach-goers. Danielle and Steven had a wild PAX experience with a demo of SoundSelf, designer Robin Arnott’s semi-experimental chanting and meditation game. Niki, Steven and John all got more time with Fuser, Harmonix’ new DJ game. And Dillon… Dillon got to host!
This year at PAX, we spoke with Sarah Elmaleh, the voice actor behind characters from games as big as Gears and Anthem and as iconic as Pyre and Gone Home. At the show, she’s helping to promote The Red Lantern, which she did voice direction and casting for, and, naturally, appearing on panels.
Ok, we’ll admit it. By day three of PAX East 2020, the intrepid crew has started to lose their minds a little bit. But that didn’t stop them from presenting a panel at the show today, and playing tons of games, including perspective puzzler Moncage, far-out Everspace 2, the awesome-looking DJ game Fuser, and so much more. Our brains may have melted, but our mics are still hot!
From PAX East 2020: John and merritt played a cool spaceship salvage game called Hardspace: Shipbreaker. Steven and Niki got their hands on Spongebob Squarepants: Battle For Bikini Bottom Rehydrated, while Steven also saw some cool mechs in Phantom Brigade and cyberpunk corporate shenanigans in Industries of Titan. Sabriel hung out with cute foxes in Tunic, and Danielle played a cool puzzle/educational game in Kana Quest, and got lost in the funky cityscapes of Sometimes Always Monsters.
PAX East is only one day old, and no, we can’t believe it either. The full crew is out in Boston, in full force, you might say, seeing the sights and playing the games of PAX East 2020.
Fresh from a preview event for Baldur's Gate III, Features and Trending Editor merritt k grabbed Managing Editor Steven Strom for a full rundown of the new game's look and feel.
This week, the crime crew of Merritt k, Steven Strom and Danielle Riendeau watch and discuss Michael Mann’s macho 1995 classic, Heat. A crime drama with surprising ties to reality, unbelievable cinematography, and best-in-class performances from Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, it also features some classic 90s racism and a supporting cast that any other movie would die for. Come for the in-depth discussion of the plot and performances, but definitely stay for Steven’s Pacino impression.
Some of your favorite hosts couldn't make it this week, so we brought in the always amazing John Warren to make up for it! This inevitably leads to some... discussion... of California food, fashion, and beverages of choice. It gets worse when we discover "The Norm Burger," but don't worry! We dive deep into some video game discussion this week as we take a look at Rune Factory 4 Special, Corruption 2029, and fighting games. Plus: Niki played more Halo! It's still good! Video games!
From the new opening credits that allude to a Jewish Pope to a central character named Eric in the episode itself, Papal Bull co-host (and Fanbyte’s Chief Liturgical Correspondent) Eric Thurm knows that this episode is very much for him. He’s joined, as always, by Fanbyte’s Features and Trending Editor merritt k, and this week, by writer Jorge Cotte, for an examination of an incredibly intense episode of The New Pope. We have so many baptisms in this one.
We're so excited... to bring you another episode of You Love to See It! As you can likely guess, this week we discussed the infamous and much meme'd episode of 90s childhood sitcom Saved by the Bell. It's titled "Jessie's Song," but most people likely know it as "the caffeine pills episode." In it, one of our protagonists becomes addicted to the relatively harmless substance and deranged antics ensue. We go over how the episode came to be, and how memes are the least of its problems, on You Love to See it!
