Have you been taught or told that when your child has behavior (really any type of behavior) to implement calming strategies?
Today, I share why this actually isn't the most effective and efficient route AND what is.
While calming strategies are important...hello, we obviously all need to learn to use them so we aren't just having adult temper tantrums everywhere...there is a way you can teach your child what they are and how to use them without actually having to sit down and walk them through it.
Today, I dive into the 2 main steps to help your child make the connection on their own and begin to implement them when needed. BONUS: this isn't just for older kids. My 3 year old did this exact thing today and guess what?!
I have NEVER sat down and showed him pictures of calming strategies or specifically and intentionally created time to teach him them or created a calming space that I instructed him on using.
Tune in to find out how!

Today, I want to share some insights into this listener question:
"When my son has a massive tantrum right before we HAVE to go somewhere and we don't have the option to just let him have the tantrum as long as he wants, what do we do about it?"
Before diving into what to do in this situation, one question to really ask and reflect on if you find yourself in this situation is...is this something you actually don't have the time for or is it something you would just rather not be late for?
If it's something you determine you can't be late for, then tune in as I chat how to overcome this challenging situation in a way that doesn't feel so difficult AND gets you out the door without the added need to keep your own triggers in line or find yourself in battles that cause more chaos and disconnection.

After last week's episode, I got a few questions about co-sleeping, sleep training, and what to do about specific sleep routines.
Today, I wanted to share with you how to transition from where you are to where you want to go; maybe you co sleep and you want your child to sleep in his/her own bed; maybe your child falls asleep well and then wakes in the middle of the night and you bring the child to your bed because you're tired but you don't want to make it a "forever" routine; maybe you rock your child to sleep but it's taking an incredibly long time and it doesn't feel like the best case scenario anymore.
No matter what the situation, this episode is for you!
Tune in as I share 4 basic steps that can help for whatever you are desiring to change in a way you can feel good about that will also leave your child feeling connected. More connected equals better sleep!

Today, I want to focus on the fun and cuddles. Join me as I share 2 simple, yet effective tips to make bedtime more of a routine you can look forward to than one you dread!

*4.5 million children in the US are diagnosed and living with anxiety
*in the last 3 years, the likelihood of young people having a mental health problem has increased by 50%
*5 children in a classroom of 30 are likely to have a mental health problem
Sounds overwhelming, doesn't it??
But what I want to encourage you with is that you, as the parent/caregiver, play a crucial role in the development of your child's mental health.
While this can also feel like a large weight to carry, today I want to share with you 4 steps to create a great foundation to get you going on the right track!

The question of "should I require my child to apologize or allow them to choose when they do it" has been one I've pondered for awhile.
The style of parenting I follow and teach would say that a child should choose when he/she apologizes because it is showing when they actually have empathy for what they did.
Today, I dive into a few thoughts I have that may help you when considering how you want to handle apologizing in your household.
If you have additional thoughts, I'd love for you to send me an email or an IG DM and share them!!

Last week, I woke up feeling like I was just in "a mood". Like I woke up on the wrong side of the bed and I didn't really know why or what caused it. But I had a really difficult time moving out of it.
I could feel my frustrations and impatience rising at different times throughout the day. I managed to keep self controlled enough that I didn't yell or explode but I definitely was still missing the mark. I couldn't help but let my kids know that I was annoyed at their requests.
The next day, I was reflecting on what happened and felt convicted.
How quickly do we expect our kids to transition out of their bad moods? Do we ever remind ourselves that a child can also have a day where they "wake up on the wrong side of the bed"?
Today's episode shares a perspective shift + 2 main components to work through it.

Your child is a mirror of your reflection.
And no, I don't mean physically, although that may be true too! What I mean, more specifically, is your child is a mirror to your ability to maintain your regulation, to manage your triggers when you become frustrated or upset. Is what you're seeing something you are pleased with?
Now, of course, our kids will need time to learn regardless of how well we stay calm during their big feelings but your consistency of patience, kindness, empathy, and understanding matter! Even when it feels like it isn't sinking in.
On the road to learning how to self-regulate (or calm/manage big feelings when upset, disappointed, embarrassed, nervous, etc) your child first learns from you.
What is your natural (and highly patterned) response when you are upset? Do you tend to yell, threaten, bribe, use a little more physical force than is needed, etc?
The next time your child becomes upset, whether it's from you saying no or because a sibling took a toy or won't share, watch the response that happens. Does it look similar to yours?
If you are ready to learn to manage your triggers and/or resolve patterning you have around certain behaviors and do it in a way that doesn't result in mom guilt, burnout, overwhelm, etc. DM me "triggers" and I'll send you some specific strategies.
