Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease is a peripheral neuropathy i.e. it affects the nerves of the peripheral nervous system. This results in motor and sensory deficits. It's inherited although there are many potential causative mutations. The disease is progressive, but very slowly. Most patients have a normal life expectancy.
