“I could really use some extra unnecessary weight on my body to help me run my race” said no runner ever. As followers of Jesus,we are in a race, and according to 1Corinthians 9:24, winning the race is the goal. Just as in a natural race, our spiritual race shouldn’tbe hindered by any unnecessary weight. Hebrews 12:1 tells us to strip off anything that slows us down or holds us back, especiallythose sins that trip us up so easily. In this message we will discuss what kind of hinderances may be affecting our race. We will also seethat there is no reason to be discouraged because we are being cheered on by a crowd of faithful believers who have gone before us andfinished their races of faith victoriously. Hebrews 12:2 gives us the secret to winning our race without fail, and that’s by keeping our eyeson Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. Just like Paul in 2 Timothy 4:7 may we all be able to proclaim at the crossing of our finish line,"we have fought the good fight, we have finished our race, and we have remained faithful”.
