Weekly Tuesday check-in with Rob Breakenridge. For those of you from Toronto who are just joining our program for the first time tonight, every Tuesday evening we are joined by Rob Breakenridge out of NewsTalk 770 in Calgary. He joins us for a chat once a week to talk about what his listeners are talking about, and a few of the big stories of the week.

Today: Rob’s column on the Parliament Hill ice rink, unemployment in Alberta, and updates on Calgary’s bid to host the Olympics.

An apology decades in the making. Today Prime Minister Justin Trudeau apologized to gay and lesbian Canadians who have been systematically purged from the public service.

Sad news for the Edmonton broadcasting world. Chuck Chandler, known for his broadcasting work with our friends over at 630 CHED has died. Chandler worked at 630 CHED from 1973 to 1979. For part of those years, he hosted the TV show Disco Daze at CITV from 1975 to 1978. Chandler also spent a few years in the early 1980s as the announcer on the TV show Let’s Make A Deal.

And a happy conclusion to a story we’ve been following for at least a week here in BC. Dog walker Annette Poitras who was lost for two days in the Metro Vancouver mountains is finally going home. Annette was found last Wednesday a two day search effort that involved multiple search and rescue teams. She spoke to reporters as she left the hospital today.

Just when you thought things could be getting better for Bill Morneau. Today the Finance Minister threatened to take the Conservatives to court after the official Opposition peppered him with questions about a stock sale that occurred before he introduced pension legislation in the House of Commons.

It’s a problem out here on the West, where birds are dying by the hundreds in oilsands mines. And while the headline of “100 birds have died at Suncor’s Fort Hills oilsands mine” catches the attention of many...Brett Wilson says this might not actually be as big of a problem as it sounds.

Toronto experienced their warmest day in November Tuesday...with a daytime high of 17 degrees! That’s as hot was it felt like in Las Vegas this afternoon. St. Catharines, with a high of 18 was the warmest city in Canada today. On average, temperatures for this time of year in the city are between -3 and 4 degrees.

The Calgary Zoo made good on its bet with the Toronto Zoo following the Stampeders’ Sunday evening loss to the Toronto Argonauts in the Grey Cup today. Here’s Zoo president and CEO Dr. Clement Lanthier explaining his promise...and delivering.

Last week, we told you the story of 34 year old Johnny Bobbitt Jr, a homeless man living in Philadelphia who came to the aid of Kate McClure when she ran out of gas on the highway. She wasn’t able to repay him at the time, so she set up an online fundraiser. Well that fundraiser has now raised more than $385-thousand dollars, enough to buy Bobbitt Jr a dream home and truck.

Families in Port Hope Ontario, where the largest clean-up in radioactive waste in Canadian history is underway – say they weren’t adequately informed of high levels of lead and arsenic in their soil (both buried deep and at the surface) which were discovered by the remediation project. Global News has obtained through a whistleblower, what those levels are… and they are troubling.

Hajrullahu’s 32-yard field goal with 53 seconds remaining earned the Toronto Argonauts a stunning 27-24 win over Calgary on a snowy Sunday night. It marked the second straight year the Stampeders had posted a CFL-best record during the regular season, only to be upset in the biggest game of the year.
