It’s one of the biggest political stories of the day, and our very own David Akin broke it. From David’s story: “As Finance Minister Bill Morneau is pressed in the House of Commons for details on the circumstances of the sale of shares he held in his family business, Morneau Shepell Inc., Global News has analyzed insider trading reports of the company and discovered that Morneau’s father sold a significant number of shares days before his son announced a major tax policy change.

On the heels of Matt Laurer’s firing yesterday after he was accused of “inappropriate sexual behaviour” by multiple women, video has surfaced of him from 2006, making inappropriate comments to co-host Meredith Vieira.

And continuing on this vein, Sportsnet’s Gregg Zaun was fired today over inappropriate behaviour and comments. Rick Brace, President of Rogers Media, said in a statement Thursday that the company was terminating the contract of the Blue Jays analyst effective immediately.

In news that won’t surprise anyone who lives or works in Toronto, the 2016 census found that Torontonians have the country’s longest commute. The average Toronto commuter spends 34 minutes getting to work. That’s edged up by over one minute since the last census and is well over the national average of 26.2 minutes! 

We want to continue this segment as we like to do with a good, human story. Mikayla Holmgren, a 22 year old dancer, Bethel University student, and Minnesota resident, became the first woman this weekend with Down syndrome to compete in the state’s Miss USA pageant. She spoke to CBS News affiliate about her experience.

And bringing it home with a great story from Canada. Doctors devote their careers to caring for the sick, but Dr. Jeff Turnbull has decided to take his devotion a step further. He's leaving his role as chief of staff at the Ottawa hospital to take on the most important role of his life. Here’s more from Global News.

A community advocate in Surrey, where an estimated 300 homeless live within a four block radius in the Whalley (a small town in Surrey) area - is suggesting people need to pitch in and help solve homelessness and not just leave it up to politicians.
Mike Musgrove runs the "Surrey Urban Mission" that feeds thousands free meals every year. He says he's fed up with the "not in my backyard" mantra every time a politician suggests affordable housing be built somewhere. CKNW's Janet Brown caught up with Musgrove at the Mission and also spoke with some homeless people who call the Whalley strip home.
