A study from the Statistics Canada has revealed some pretty shocking statistics relating to the mental health of Canadian youth. It found:
Nearly ¼ of a million Canadians between 15-24 have had depression and suicidal thoughts at some point in their lives.Half of those surveyed who met the criteria for lifetime depression said they had had suicidal thoughts at some point - representing approximately 234 000 young CanadiansSuicide is the second leading cause of death among those aged 15-24In their lifetime 5% of young Canadians had made a suicide plan, with 2% making such a plan in the previous year. 4% had attempted suicide.Only one third of young people who had suicidal thoughts looked for professional helpWhy is it that Canadian youth suffering from depression aren’t looking for help?
