Today, Donald Trump signed executive order to move forward on Keystone XL and the Dakota Access pipelines. Keystone, which would bring Canadian crude from Alberta to the US Gulf was rejected by Former President Barak Obama in 2015 after environmentalists campaigned against the project for more than seven years. Reaction from Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi and Premier Rachel Notley were positive, with Notley saying “Our government welcomes news that the United States has taken an important step towards moving forward with the Keystone XL pipeline.”

Calgary based research has found we could save between $34.7 - $136.8 million in annual healthcare spending across Canada if we introduced medically assisted dying legislation. Authors of the report say because most Canadians die in the hospital, this costs taxpayers more than a palliative care system. Bill C-14 became law in June of last year, with provinces still rolling out their plans to deal with requests for doctor assisted death.
