Charting GTIA’s Future with CEO Dan Wensley

Listen Later

Back in April, on episode 162, I spoke with MJ Shoer, the Chief Community Officer, about the new Global Technology Industry Association (GTIA) and how it was formed by the spin-off of CompTIA. At the time, they were searching for a CEO. In today’s episode, you are going to hear all about the future direction of GTIA, the Global Technology Industry Association, directly from their newly appointed CEO, Dan Wensley.

I had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with Dan at GTIA’s annual ChannelCon event where we recorded this interview. I learned that Dan is well known in the MSP world and appears to be a great choice as GTIA’s new leader. There was certainly a very positive vibe of new beginnings at the show.

Dan shares insights from his first 101 days in the role, his plans for GTIA moving forward and how can all of us benefit from this global organization.  He passionately discusses his vision, the rebranding of GTIA, and the initial goals he set for the organization.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

Here are 5 things I learned about Dan and his plans for GTIA:

  1. Community and Engagement: Dan emphasizes the importance of community engagement as the cornerstone of GTIA’s mission. He highlights the recent rebranding at the Premier Global event, ChannelCon, as pivotal for setting the tone for future initiatives. Ensuring that members are involved and aware of new directions and resources underscores the value GTIA places on its community’s input and active participation.
  2. Adapting to Change: Transitioning from traditional roles in high-growth companies to a nonprofit association, Dan illustrates the significance of adaptability. He reminds us that it’s crucial to build strong, educational communities regardless of the business model. His approach to engaging with the industry—across for-profit and nonprofit sectors—demonstrates the agility required to successfully lead in different organizational contexts.
  3. Resource Utilization:  A major focus for Dan is ensuring that the valuable resources GTIA develops are effectively marketed and utilized by its members. Bringing greater visibility to these resources involves improving awareness among members about the tools and insights available to them, ensuring that every interaction leads to tangible benefits for their businesses.
  4. Expanding Membership: By broadening the scope to include IT Service Providers rather than just MSPs, Dan aims to expand GTIA’s membership reach. Recognizing the evolving nature of industry roles, this shift highlights the importance of addressing the needs of more types of partners and enhancing networking opportunities within the trade association.
  5. Trends and Future Outlook: Dan identifies key industry trends such as AI and consolidation in the MSP community. He emphasizes the need for GTIA to stay informed about such trends to support members effectively. By fostering conversations around these developments, GTIA positions itself as a leader in industry evolution, providing strategic insights for its members to navigate upcoming challenges and opportunities.
