Checkpoint Church

When was the last time you moved homes? Packed all of your things up and took them to a totally new place and then started unpacking. You unpacked memories, keepsakes, heartbreaks. And odds are, you finished unpacking and said, “I never want to do that again.” But the zen-game Unpacking made me retract that statement - what can we learn from Unpacking the life of someone else? Can taking things out of boxes one at a time help us to learn more about ourselves in the process? And is it really true that everything happens for a reason? Let’s talk about it.

Checkpoint Church is the place where all people from all walks of life are always welcomed with loving arms. We strive to steer clear from the modern temptations of being too ‘churchy’ or judgmental. We are the safe space for those who haven’t felt welcomed by the church before.

EDITOR'S NOTE:  This video mentions a tragedy in Ohio, but the event in fact occurred in Michigan. Adjustments and edits have been made as possible. Apologies for any affected by this error.

Yeah, you read that title right. We’re straight up talking about Pikmin and Jesus today and that is hilarious to me. Words cannot describe how much I love this church. If you aren’t on the bandwagon for Pikmin Bloom, I’m not too surprised. It’s a pretty obvious cash grab to re-vision the phenomenon that was Pokemon Go (which will never happen again).

But there’s a distinct difference between Pokemon and Pikmin… and it’s not just their flower head appendages, cuz Chikorita. But we as Christians and just as plain old human beings can actually learn something about the way we serve others by the way that Pikmin serve us. Curious? Me too. Let’s talk about it.

It seems like more and more of the games, movies, and cartoons that we grew up with are being rebooted, remastered or re-released. Sometimes it makes people mad when this happens. But maybe we can learn something from the way that we react to these releases.

What could the wisdom of King Solomon in the Bible have to offer us through games like Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl?  Let’s talk about it.

We can’t just NOT talk about Dune, right? It’s too jam-packed with imagery and themes and all that mess to possibly get away with avoiding it. But, it’s also a tricky subject, because it’s pretty clearly exploring the themes of another religion entirely. But what can Christians learn from the story of Paul of the house of Atreides, other than just learning to read dense books that are slow as molasses?

For this video, we’re going to focus specifically on something you’ll hear quite  a bit between the movie, the show, and the book: the power of fear and why the Litany Against Fear doesn’t quite cut it. Let’s talk about it.

Metroid Dread is the game that no one saw coming. After being canned in the early 2000s, who would have thought that Samus would enter the 2D sphere again?

Metroid isn't exactly know for having a robust plotline. But if we take a look at the meta-game and see the game *behind* the game, we might find the that the story of Samus equipping herself for battle is familiar for those of us in the church. What can Samus teach us about Spiritual Gifts? Let's talk about it.
