More info about the race:
Gainesville's only annual longboard skateboard event is back for the 5th year in a row! Fun for all ages at the Gainesville-Hawthorne Trail. This event will be held as a fundraiser for Skateistan: an international non-profit empowering youth through skateboarding and education in Afghanistan, Cambodia and South Africa (for more info see skateistan.org).
THIS EVENT IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC AND IS BEGINNER-FRIENDLY. Anyone can compete as long as they have a helmet (**REQUIRED**) and are registered to ride. Spectators are welcome as well.
The event will consist of:
- 2-mile race on mainly flat land (very beginner friendly)
- 10k race that includes small hills and turns (top speed ~25mph)
- Flatground freestyle/dance competition (a few small ramps/features added)
- Miniramp contest
- Miscellaneous mini-contests for prizes
- Raffles for an assortment of sponsor product
Sign-in begins at 11:00 A.M. and push off for the first race is at noon sharp. Registration day of the event instead of online will cost an additional $5. Mini-ramp and freestyle contests are free for registered racers, otherwise it's a $5 registration fee.
Don't forget to bring cash for the raffles; we will be giving out a ton of prizes and all the money from entry fees and raffles goes straight to charity!
