Richard is joined by Alex Lawson, executive director of Social Security Works. He discussed the organization's mission to "protect and improve the economic security of disadvantaged and at-risk populations," "safeguard the economic security of those dependent, now or in the future, on Social Security," and "maintain Social Security as a vehicle of social justice" (as highlighted on the Social Security Works website). Lawson emphasized Social Security's 90-year history of uninterrupted payments, "through war and peace, through boom and bust, through health and pandemic . . . until this guy, Elon Musk, figured out a weakness in the system, which was the Social Security Administration. And by destroying the administration, he has made it difficult for us to get our legal benefits, and the money is ours."
He also talked about President Donald Trump's nominee for Social Security Administration commissioner, Frank Bisignano. "He's being put in place to oversee the destruction of Social Security," Lawson told WCPT. "He's been working hand in glove with Elon Musk's DOGE wrecking crew."
Lawson urged listeners to support the "Hands Off My Social Security" campaign and to stay informed about potential disruptions to their benefits.
