Today it's just Marlee on the mic, as Keely and Georgia had their day jobs to attend to - but nonetheless we’re all super excited to be bringing you today’s HalfTime Huddle interview! 

These chats are deeper dive conversations than what we get in our regular eps and they feature some of our favourite athletes and sports insiders.

Melissa Wu is a name that’s been staple to the Australian Olympic team for well over a decade. The now 29 year old burst onto our screens in 2008 at just 16 years of age where she became the youngest Australian ever to win an Olympic medal in the sport of diving. 

But before that even, at just 13 she’d medalled at the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games and it was clear to all from the very beginning, she was something special. 

In 2021, she competed in her fourth Olympic games in Tokyo and brought home bronze in the individual 10m platform event, proving once more, with such longevity and success in her career so far, that she’s one of our most consistent and resilient Olympians ever.

Today we are so stoked to bring this chat with the formidable Melissa Wu to you. She shares all about still growing up while working as a pro athlete, what her day to day life looks like and some really exciting things she’s got coming up in the near future.

If you are unfamiliar with today’s guest– let us give you some context. Georgia first met Matt when he signed with the Melbourne Storm back in 2009 where he stayed until 2015, since then, he has gone onto play rugby union in New Zealand, including representing the All Blacks, and has now moved his family to Japan where he plays for the Honda Heat. 

We chat with Matt about getting through the array of injury setbacks he’s had in his career, the switch from league to union and what it feels like to wear an All Blacks jersey, while he’s killing time before his team has clean up duty - a regular punishment for being late to training in Japanese rugby!

In 2019 Fine Kula was a promising young football star in the Sharks system and had just turned 21 when he started getting intense headaches that made him lethargic. On the advice of the club doctor, he went and got an MRI and received the terrifying news that he had a cancerous brain tumour.

Now, after a long, difficult journey, the best news is Fine is cancer free and his health is well on the right track, but the lessons he's learned and how the experience has changed his perspective on life is remarkable and a great reminder to us all of what really matters in life.

Happy Monday, we couldn't be more excited to be bringing you today’s inspiring HalfTime Huddle interview! 

These chats are deeper dive conversations than what we get in our regular eps and they feature some of our favourite athletes and sports insiders.

And speaking about favourite athletes, today’s guest is right at the top of our list. Outgoing Melbourne Storm player Nicho Hynes has had a breakout year in 2021 in many ways. Not only has his performance on the field drawn the attention of many, but his strength and bravery in sharing his mental health journey publicly to raise awareness and normalise seeking help, has seen him rise as a prominent and important voice in rugby league.

Today we reflect with Nicho on what 2021 has been like for him and look forward to 2022 when he will be joining the Cronulla Sharks (much to the joy of us shire based Silva’s and to the sadness of our Melbournian G Moore).

Nicho is someone dedicated to using his platform to helping people and he truly blew us away with how dedicated he is to doing just that - if you already love Nicho, like so many of us do, be prepared to love him even more after hearing this conversation!

Disclaimer - we did record this when Melbourne was still in the finals and we all had hopes for a Storm GF haha but nonetheless the footy chat is unreal too! 

A huge thank you to Nicho for making the time again to come and hang out with us chicks, and now, it’s into the show...
